FFXI has lost all concept of being FFXI!

So yesterday I decided to go and CP SMN solo for a while at my own pace, killing a very small amount of monsters in a little corner.

As I zoned in to the area, there were three characters standing there, doing nothing with constant JP/Merits popping above their heads.

There was one char running around on BLU, near them, absolutely slaughtering groups of monsters at once with AOE magic (including the little groups of monsters I was fighting)..

Now, these 3 characters just standing there, are going to earn the title "Master" by, simply, standing there. How many more games is this even possible? To get the ultimate rank, by simply standing there?

The game did what it needed to survive. No further explanation is owed to you than that.

More players are going to quit when the most relevant content in the game is a far off dream than those who would quit because the method of powerlevelling these days is kind of hammy. For those who want to level at a slower, deliberate pace and enjoy the scenery often underappreciated these days, you're still welcome to do that. I'm thinking of slowly leveling a job myself when this CP campaign ends.

Ha! job master the ultimate rank? Not even close. I turn my stars off because it's so pointless, (that and they look like they were drawn in MS paint). Ooh I can perfect dodge 15 minutes sooner, big freaking whoop.

If people want to leech so be it. Not exactly a new concept. Remember when abby burn parties were all the rage?

LOL omg seriously people have been powerleveling people for ages this is nothing new.

Power leveling was different then, it meant you played your character, and you were healed by someone else whom was typically higher.

So someone get's PL'ed from 1-99 then 0-2100JP without doing a thing..... Explains why a whole host of clueless people emerged. Thieves not knowing what Trick Attack is, WHM's thinking Cure is the only thing they do, and so on.

Like I said, name a game where you can get to maximum level without even moving?

Those could have been the guys mules. Even if everyone was forced to get their own job points, do you really think it takes someone whos the best at their job to grind away to job master? You could take even the worst player and if they kept at it long enough they could get job master killing the easiest of monsters. It really doesn't mean anything and good players can still clear content even though they leeched CP...

First of all, this kind of powerleveling has been around for awhile. You can argue whether it's good or bad, but the point is it's been around a long time. Korroloka Astral burns, Abyssea cleave parties. Plus, I think you're downplaying your definition of powerleveling. Having an outside healer means replacing the healing role in a PT with either another DD or a support job. That's huge, and back in the day it made a big difference. Can you imagine a Ronfaure [S] PT with 2 BRDs instead of a BRD and a WHM? Do you remember giving a level 1 player Nitro songs and disbanding? That was a thing too.

But really, you shouldn't worry about what other people are doing if they aren't impacting your play, especially if they aren't violating the ToS. It's obnoxious.

It was impacting my play, I was killing within a small collection of monsters (4 in total) and he was wiping half the zone in one-two AOE shots.. He then tells me "Please go away"... If you refer to the terms, then yes, that is breaking them.

Being a SMN in this zone, I was limited to this spot, as the other "camps" have elementals that my (starter) SMN would not be able to take with ease. Of course, they aggro magic.

This isn't anything new... ole' school FFXI had power leveling...dual boxing to power level your "other other other" character on multiple accounts... then came abyssea---key person m'kay in La'Thiene...yes, please... now we stand in corner and reap the benefits of blu'burnin' mobs to capitalize on the xp'cp chain event...

It is what it is... just enjoy this long lasting lovin' game while it's active...cause this stuff's not changing anytime soon.
