I'd actually prefer that the money I spent on my X360 copies of FFXI doesn't go to waste when the 360 version becomes useless in 8 months.

Luckily for you, when you bought the game for Xbox360, you were paying for the game codes which also work for the PC version; the money won't go to waste.

Oh... and if SE doesn't "control" the FFXI servers, then is it just a coincidence that the PS2 and Xbox360 servers will be shutting down on the same day? Why did Square make the announcement and not Microsoft?

I never said that SE doesn't control FFXI servers. I said there are no separate Xbox360 servers. The Xbox360 needs to connect to Microsoft's Xbox Live servers before you can play anything online. If Microsoft's servers aren't there, SE can't do anything about it.
