Davs, can you fix the issue with the fullscreen.

I'm sure as most of us know when fullscreened FFXI that a simple alt tab or an antivirus popup will end your ffxi session and even in windowed mode if you start a program like another game which is fullscreen it will also end your session. since the servers have lost many players over the years and a lot of waiting for an event is happening i would like to be playing another game while i wait for shouts/tells etc but i cant run another game on my pc without ffxi crashing when the other game starts up fullscreen. Please this is something that really needs to be fixed since the start of the game.

This problem, as you know, has been around since the start of the game. They so adamantly refused to fix it that it spawned multiple third-party programs to address it, despite being against the TOS. I'm fairly certain they will never fix it.

Pretty much all PC users know that this won't get fixed and most have resorted to... other means. Even those are not perfect though and sometimes the game can still crash.

while its understandable, with pc having that issue, its also a major bone of contention since those "other means", aka third party progs, also give pc users a major edge over the other platforms. im talking the very definition of the term "unfair advantage" for example, i was sending out a /yell for an elders grip +1, and some person in ABYSSEA answered me, telling me he saw my yell for it while still in that zone, then tried to backtrack over his answer when he realized just what he had done. most windowers also offer a bunch of advantages over the consoles in the form of finding weaknesses for mobs and nms, dyna procs, skill up programs, and many more. i have even been refused abyssea parties because im on xbox and dont have a windower. so frankly, it pisses me off that pc users and only pc users get this advantage, and against the TOS. if SE would fix this issue, then the windowers wouldnt be needed. my personal opinion, if SE wont fix it, then they are asking for ppl to cheat (dirty word i know, but by defintion a windower or any 3rd party program is cheating. no offense) so please, SE, fix this problem so ppl can get rid of the windowers (yeah right) and we can have a fair game again. i think i can speak for all the console gamers when i say even things up or fix it up!

Uh... you realize you can see tells outside the zone without using Windower, right...? FFXIAH.com is a "third-party" site that people browse to look at auction house prices, stock, etc without having to run to the auction house. No downloads, no game enhancements; it even has a window for viewing shouts by servers, which is probably where that person saw it from. It's third-party in the same way a wiki is, providing in-game information that is available to everyone evenly, provided that you can pull up the website.

As for finding weaknesses, I don't know how Windower would affect that, or if it would even be necessary; for Abyssea and VW, the proc requirements are very well known from practice and study, and if you have the proper abyssite/atmacite, you can get hints to narrow the proc requirements down. Dynamis procs have nothing to do with Windower either; again, procs are known through trial and error; I remember doing a lot of the initial testing when the new Dynamis system came out. If it's a beastman mob, proc type is based on job. If it's a Nightmare mob, procs rotate by time and by mob group, and a set group will always be one proc during 0-8, another from 8-16, and the last from 16-0. That's just basic information, not Windower.

Anyway, I do agree that it would be nice to have the fullscreen mode not break, but I prefer a windowed mode anyway; I can't see if someone contacts me on Skype, for example, because I look for the flashing bar. It's far easier to use a windowed mode, which the game does provide; just maximize the window. I did see that the OP noted that even in windowed mode that they were crashing, but that may be due to another full-screen game or something simply not being compatible for being up at the same time.

If you cough cough fight club cough cough, you can do "fullscreen windowed" which has no window border but your taskbar will still pop up for things like skype bleeps and other notifications. best of both worlds cough fight club cough. dang this cough is bad.

You are sadly mistaken if you think this would stop people from using 3rd party windowers.

As far as being refused abyssea parties, it prolly has more to do with them already have 17 leeches and wanting 1 person to PL them. There is no reason anyone cant join an abyssea party, that stuff is so cake/easy/farm mode now. Also, there is no way to tell if someone is on an xbox unless your invite message is;

"Hi I am on an xbox, can i join your party?"

lol read the rest of my post. i was being sarcastic on the point of windowers not being needed. as for the rest of your reply, i was specifically asked if i was on pc. when i said i was on xbox, i was told they only wanted pc players. that was what made it so rediculous. back then abby was a bit tougher on some points, since it was before ilvl stuff came out. but i agree, these days its just routine, and most abby stuff is obsolete anyway.

Honestly xbox/ps2/pc doesnt matter in modern day. If you told me that YESTERDAY an abyssea group denied you entrance because you were on an xbox, id find it very hard to believe. If your referring to years ago when abyssea was still relevant and people were trying to 1 group NM for empy weapons...maybe, i might believe there was someone douche-y enough at the time to pull that stunt.

PC is the master race and always has/will be. Console gamers need to understand that when they play MMO. They are getting a ported version of the game, and the developers cannot always guarantee the same experience for console gamers as PC gamers. SE has tried to maintain the same experience, which lead to years of 'ps2 limitation' jokes from players and replys from devs. Not trying to diss you for playing on an xbox, just saying that 'as a console gamer asking them to even things up' isn't really fair to pc gamers who want the developers to drop support for PS2/Xbox so we can get more meaningful updates without hearing about limitations.
