It's not sequential, if any are right they will remain lit, so in your example, A and D will remain lit.

Now I'm really confused. I thought "light in a specific order" implied a sequence. So if A and D remain lit, that means that the order could be any of the possibilities where A comes before D (except A>B>C>D because we just tried that and failed) ? So:
