shouts for skill-up parties, mission completion, BCNMs, KSNMs, even ISNMs.... Salvage, Nyzul Isle, etc... you'll occasionally see a few shouts for Nyzul gear floors but not a whole lot for floor climbs.

I rember quite a few times I'd get a random invite on RDM, (years later, COR too sometimes) within seconds of logging in. If I put my /inv flag up 99% chance I'd have a party within a minute.

Yeah the quick tele thing for sure... a lot of people had 37WHM/18BLM levelled up on their mains or their mules specifically so they could teleport and warp as quickly as possible... Lol if u were trying to tele-taxi you'd have to be really quick to /pcmd add "whoever" before anyone else could so that you'd get to do the tele. Thats how fast you could get a tele lol...

I miss KRT bones parties (5x MNK burn, RDM or WHM), RNG burn on Lufaise... I had fun in Ule. Range, not so much fun in Bibiki Bay although I remember partying their and selling the Airtanks that dropped so people could get Bugbear pops (remember Rutter Sabatons lol?)

Hell not going back very long at all - I miss bird parties in ToAU as COR... it was expensive as hell but I always dual wielded my joyeuse and mkris and I spammed the hell out of quickdraws and slug shots on those poor colibiri, esp after they gave us TP on QD shots.

    Nice thread guys^^
Logging in and having to go /anon on bard 75 right away. Or just get spam /tells

DRK could sub SAM and use Hasso to keep Dread Spikes in infinitely, allowing them to solo chain IT mobs.

BRD could sub COR and cast infinite songs.

Sniper's Ring (NQ) was 20m and HQ was 40m during inflation of '06.

Also during inflation of '06, Chocobos at crags cost upward of 7k.

There was a (not widely exploited) exploit that under the right circumstances, high lvl players could bring several mobs to low health and CFH one of them - low lvl players received full XP on the non-CFH ones.

The "attack behind doors" exploit worked on any kind of obstacle that mobs couldn't pass through, and it caused them to glitch and stop attacking. This was how many linkshells defeated AV in 2006.

AV used to be Kraken Club burnable and this was how many linkshells defeated him in (what was it, 2008? 2009?)~

A large group of SCH used to be able to precisely time Modus Veritas to "1-shot" HNMs.

Square Enix made a really lame video on how to fight AV. The only things players learned from that were: SAMs should wear Domarus, Taru RDM should use Emotes when not 2 houring, and that you needed a bot to accurately lock AVs 2 hours.

Stroper Chimes used to drop Archer's Rings. On Midgardsormr, there was an RMT party that camped them 24/7 that was fondly named "The Alphabet Gang". Its members included Aniet Babys Capcom Dress Enongh and Fast.

You could MPK people by casting Bind on mobs. They would attack the nearest player they were facing. It was fun to cast Bind on pugils in Qufim and kill swarms of RMT fishbots.

There were no Goblin Speedhackers near coastlines/lakes/puddles.

Casting -aga buffs in a party with a crafter will STILL break their synth!

To this day, I STILL don't know how to get to that tiny island in Batallia Downs without the use of POS.

Putting up /anon and lvl 8 gear, then grabbing Bloodtear/Steelfleece and running around the crag screaming still produces a chuckle.

At 75 cap, soloing was a thing of legend, not something you had to do to finish a quest.

THF could solo 25-30 faster than any job in the game (still can :-) )

It was always possible to earn 15k/hr lvls 10-50~ before level sync and SMN burn.

It was possible to claim another group's mob, including NMs by spamming Provoke/Stun/Dia/Flash until it went through.

Fleetool worked while on Chocobo to create Hyper Choobo!

There was a speed hack that didn't require any tools but Windower, where all you had to do was change your computer's clock to a certain time, then change it to another time. For a few seconds you would be moving so fast that you couldn't control your character!

If you screwed up the Chainspell Stun on RDM, Suzaku would own you.

It was possible to kill Byakko with a group of 6 at 75 cap.

RDM could solo almost anything at 75 cap, but it took them 3-8 hours to kill anything.

People would bring 2 full alliances + outside healers to kill Kirin.

RDM used to be able to tank :-(

    Tanks used to matter :'(

SMN burns from 2005-2007 consisted of 2 melee and 4 SMN magic bursting a bloodpact. At low lvls they used Thunderspark on Fragmentation/Impaction. At higher lvls they double magic bursted on Fusion with Ifrit's Fire II and Banishga from WHM sub.

The Escort Taru NPC was always up at the zone to Garlaige, waiting to die horribly from the constant trains.

Pre 50~, the only jobs that could break 500 spike damage were THF, WAR and DRK.

People thought THF should use Daggers pre-30. GOGO 35 damage Wasp Sting!

People honestly didn't know that GAXE was the only weapon that DRK should use pre-50~.

A crafter with a hefty amount of Millionaire's Desks he had made to skillup on decided to start a rumor that they gave TH+100 on NM drops. It took off like wildfire and persisted for 3 years. He retired rich and hated.

BG and Wiki didn't exist.. those were dark times and many were forced to use Allakazham /shudder

The company that owns IGE bought Allakazham.

The reason everything skyrocketed from Winter '05 to Summer '06 was because of Item and Gil duping. The gil produced was sold on FFXI gold sites for $3-5 dollars per million, with discounts on purchases over 50m!

One of the original owners and mods for FFXI Wiki used player donation funds to purchase his Mandau. Tsk Tsk.

There was a hack that allowed EX items to be trade-able.

The CoP Airship battle was the single hardest BCNM in the game.

Someone in my LS started a rumor that Lithe Boots were dropped from an NM named "Leaping Larry".. and another LS member believed it.

Nearly any job 75 cap could easily solo in Campaign for 3-7k exp

Golden-Tongued Culberry was one of the messiest fights imaginable. It was a real feat keeping more than half the alliance alive at any given moment.

People used to MPK at Fafnir by dragging spiders into his spawn area (after the Despawn patch). Being surround by multiple mobs confused him, causing him to spin, and then Flail.

    People used to camp Fafnir.

Tiamat was HARD to kill. Most LS needed more than 1 alliance.

Then people found out he wasn't really that hard. Tiamat, Cerb, Khim, Nidhogg, King Behemoth, Sandworm and Ixion could all be killed in a 75 cap group of 6-10 people. Nobody cared about any of the other high lvl mobs.

I killed Adamantoise in a 4 man skillup party lvls 70-75 once. And by skillup, I mean we were skilling up ON him lol.

Threads like this didn't exist. When we complained about the good old days, those WERE the good old days!

We had these on Bismark server too, cept they we called redapple1, redapple2, etc.... I had fun mpking them and plenty of frustration having my NM botted by them. Wow that was awhile ago...

Never said I used it lol. I saw a youtube vid of a guy doing it. I never knew about the island until I saw it

Setting aside my usual grammar Nazi-ism of not being sure what an allaince is:

You almost certainly mean Post-TAU. Most LS I've been in, watched, or seen in videos anywhere used a full alliance or more on Kirin from 2004-2006. With the introduction of much better gear, and revelations about game mechanics, it become a much more manageable fight. Some LS coped well with Kirin with less than a full "allaince" during Pre-TAU. Most did not. Stop trying to be elitist or trollbait or something?

But seriously *2nd edit cause I came off harsher than I meant lol* I'm just saying there were good shells, and there were bad shells. Which category do you think most of them fell into?
