    Inventory Fix

so FFXIV introduced an armory chest. Is is possible to implement something like that in FFXI? What would have to be sacrificed from PS2 memory to do it?

The armory chest is an inventory system that has a number of slots for each gear slot. In FFXIV there are 25 slots for each gear slot. You can move items from your normal inventory into the armory chest and back to normal inventory.

    Limitations of both consoles.

And remember, we can't has more inventory (PC) than consoles! Its just unfair.

It not the xbox 360 version that limited it only the ps2 side , just look at ff14 ps3 and the xbox 360 there both pretty much the same system, but the cell processor in the ps3 that most devs will not touch since it takes to much time and resources, in fact the 360 had more memory then the ps3, but xbox live took up alot of it memory over the years to equal the ps3 with out the cell processor. That no 3rd party developers use since cost to much to make there games.

Who knows now that microsoft drop the fees for xbox 360 updates, they can give the 360 a graphic make up also since they can update game that way for xbox users.

It's been stated many times the issue isn't an actual limitation but the load times from pulling all of that data from the server every time a player zones. The more inventory the longer the load time and that's not something SE wants.

A simple to implement solution to inventory is creating ways to combine items (i.e. all 8 _soul rings to make a ring with +7 to all stats, all ws gorgets into 1 gorget, all ws belts/elemental obis into 1 belt/obi, etc.), however that concept seems to be something SE doesn't want either.

In short the solution is gimp yourself, play less jobs, or pay for mules...

Well if SE just gave us power to begin with instead of giving us these hardcore limitations to strict everyone into depending on groups to get things done for the good majority of content, they wouldn't have to make so many gears and players wouldn't have to even carry so many sets just to increase power that most games already give you through level achievements.

The Armory Chest is so ideal in ARR. I only have 35 slots in my inventory on FFXI, and a lot of it is from weapons, armor, and drops.

You do know between Inventory, Safe, Storage, Locker, Satchel, and Sack, you get a total of 480 space on FFXI right? Its just with all of our gear swaps and gear for other jobs in this game we run out easily, your talking about having 35, so I will assume you did not know any of this, just do the Gobbiebag quests in Jeuno and you will be much better off...

The armory chest is 25 for a single equipment slot and there are 13 unique slots/tabs if I'm not mistaken.
    There's 4 tabs of inventory for consumables/craft items/selling drops.
Another Key Item (quest items) tab.
Crystals also have their own inventory tab.

Assuming I'm remembering the layouts correctly that's 450 + crystals (I haven't paid attention to this tab tbh). Also that's all out in the field accessible.

There may also still be the retainer system from 1.0 which would be another 150 slots. Also the Armoire from the Inns. I haven't checked if either of these is available in ARR I just read about them when I first flipped out about how awesome the inventory system in 14 seems.

I was by no means saying FFXI's inventory is or was better, its horrible, but if someone is complaining our inventory is to small because they have only 35, they have no idea what the real issue of it is like. They are talking about being restricted while they only have roughly 1/14th of our real inventory cap, their problem extends more from a lack of finished expansion quests, obtaining the Sack, using the Safe, buying a Satchel, unlocking a Locker, or buying furniture off of the AH. Basically, he is complaining about a problem without experiencing the true problem everyone complains about, rather, complaining about his own failure to do what can be done to expand it, everyone else who complains is complaining because even after expanding it to its maximum, its still not enough.

I definitely didn't get the impression that you were saying it was or wasn't better in FFXI. I simply wanted to point out FFXIV's amount because while I agreed with the notion that Naraku_Diabolos' opinion is flawed even at the maximum amount in FFXI it pales in comparison to FFXIV, potentially at least (as I said I haven't gotten too far into inventory as well it's not a major concern for what I'm after in my beta testing heh).

As to the OP just to keep going on the topic While I would love an inventory system like FFXIV has I don't think that's plausible due to the way FFXI is coded and I hope the devs actually take a second look at the concept of combining objects because that's a legitimate solution with minimal development time.
