The last I checked, SE's data center wasn't in a blackout zone (And this web server is part of it).

An apology statement from TEPCO has no bearing on when or if the servers will be coming back. They are working to bring some disabled plants back online which according to the information I've read will bring supply close to or above average demand (but not peak demand).

Get CocaCola to unplug it's vending machines that each drain the power of a small house, and they can turn the servers back on.

While those factories will probably be operating at limited capacity (for more reasons than one), it's pretty essential for them to be operating in the wake of the disaster destroying so much stuff. That said, I'm pretty sure a car part manufacturing plant's power demands are higher than SE's.

Service might not be back this week, but I don't think it will be the months that some people are suggesting.

Those plants start coming on Tuesday if I recall right.. and they will be pulling in 150MW more power to the grid as well. And as for the vending machines...I don't like the thought of keeping them running either, but... at least they are providing food/drink vs. a form of entertainment. Don't think that justifies the extra drain, but still the point is we are talking about a game vs. life sustaining facilities like hospitals nearby and police stations for protection and emergency services though. When you have a finite resource, need to apply it towards what is likely to provide the most benefit.

Edit: I'd also rather see some of those plants come back online so they can contribute to the nations GDP. Their economy is gonna be in the crapper after this. Ibaraki prefect isn't going to be able to export crap for a long time--Spinach wtih upwards of 20x the acceptible limit. Would you want to eat it?
