Unfortunately this has been handled in typical SE fashion. SoA was a great opportunity to breathe new life into FFXI but instead SE have mucked it up.
Instead of encouraging old players back to the game, or God forbid actually attracting new players, the handling of this situation is making previously content customers consider quitting a game they've played for up to a decade.
The community team seem like nice people and it's unfortunate that they are in the front line of all the abuse. However as the community team they are our only link to the developers and those who run FFXI. Therefore when you get a very unhappy community then the angry posts from disgruntled customers, aimed at SE as a whole, will be addressed to the only people that customers can address directly, namely the community support team.
To those who say that we should not expect as good a service as those who pay a higher one-off price for a game, I say we pay a monthly fee on top of our one-off payment. We've also had to pay over the odds for re skinned DLC expansions for a number of years now. For many FFXI fans SoA was the last chance they were going to give SE to get things right. So a little more attention, akin to a game launch, wouldn't have gone astray.
The fact that SE have managed to turn so many new/returning and even existing players off SoA before the expansion is even live speaks volumes. No matter how good content from SoA is the damage has already been done and SE either not seeing this or not caring enough is part of the reason why they've managed to alienate their playerbase like no other MMO over the years.
When SE announced the first genuine expansion since ToAU the community got excited and felt some of their fate in SE was restored. But SE managed not only to erode that feel good factor they made players even less positive about them and FFXI.
The community team do a good job given the fact that they are clearly understaffed, underfunded, kept out of the loop on many things and have their hands tied with regard to posting information they do get from the Devs. Se need to seriously think about how they handle their community relations as this is the same team who'll be there for FFXIV also. The community team need more support and a lot more communication, both in terms of the information they receive from the Devs & other SE departments and what they are allowed to post of the forums.
Maybe they are focusing on FFXIV but by not listening to feedback through every phase of testing they ended up messing that up 1st time round. Now the vast majority of those willing to give them a second chance are existing or previous SE MMO customers. The vast majority of those have either played or currently play FFXI. So by disrespecting the FFXI community they are also disrespecting a large chunk of the FFXIV community. Even those who don't play FFXI, more often than not, have friends who still do. So this issue affects more than just FFXI.
FFXIV could be the absolute best MMO on the market when ARR relaunches but it probably won't matter. SEs handling of their community will ensure that it's considered just another run of the mill MMO that's hardly ever mentioned outside of the official and community forums. As much as SE are the ultimate in MMO RPG storytelling their ineptitude in dealing with their customers negates this to the point where in the overall MMO market both FFXI and FFXIV are an irrelevance.
From a personal stand point I've played FFXI since shortly after EU launch. I've never quit the game and I probably never will. I'll be one of that last band of players who's account is still active when they turn the servers off a few years from now. My disappointment stems not necessarily from my personal experience with SE, but from the fact the their handling of the community has meant losing more friends than I can count due to them quitting either as a result of one of SE's many stuff ups or the cumulative effect of many years of dealing with SE's unique brand of customer service.

on a friends case he got charged on caRD and didnt get confirm emails and order nrs so his money is gone and cant do anything but wait till 4th april to get his money reorderet by bank .
way to go with shady companys
The sun sets forever over Blackwater park
The reason clearly is that there are way more Xbox360 in America than in the EU, and way more FFXI X360 users there than here in europe.
It was probably economically counterproductive for them to achieve a big distribution for both version of the game for X360 in Europe and decided to do the minimum, which is still better than nothing.
Of course they can't say this because it would sound bad, so they have to keep the facade.
Kinda normal hipocrisy of everyday public relationships.
I hate it, but it's how our western culture has been working for quite some time now, as much as I despise this it's not like SE is doing anything particularly different than the majority of other companies in this regard.
But it's true that, on a more general scale, their EU support is not the same as their NA and especially JP ones.
They might have their very very good economic reasons behind it, but it still looks very bad making EU users being treated like they count less.
Maybe they really do count less, maybe not, but a good company would be able to have a better organization of their teamwork, a better distribution of information among their employees, and better strategies to avoid making users from different regions feel treated so differently.
And the autumn of life has finally come
with the promise of winter thaw.

Italian Dragoon FTW! <3 Azure 4Ever. (Roleplayer)
character does not go inactive till the next billin cycle.
The reason is clearly something I didn't ask about in my post. All that matters here is that S-E cut and pasted the table from the NA site to the EU site, a table that points to both the PC and Xbox 360 getting both the expansion pack and Ultimate Collection.
NA players aren't getting anything for PS2, but they were never told they were getting anything for PS2. Meanwhile, all published material until this one community rep post at least strongly implied that UCSE for Xbox 360 would be available in Europe as well as North America and Japan.
So if this isn't a new decision, why didn't they say so?
Nothing in the above post is intended to disparage Square Enix or FINAL FANTASY XI, or to criticize Square Enix staff; such behavior would be a violation of the FINAL FANTASY XI User Agreement.
