The game doesn't need to be made available on steam for you to get it.

Steam does not modify the FFXI install at all aside from the alternate install location (The only possible modification is the pol.exe executable might have the steam encryption wrapper on it, but I'm not sure if it has that). Steam does not manage updates for the game- POL does it. Therefore, you should be able to just buy any PC copy of SoA and install it.

Your copy of FFXI is installed by default to C:\Program Files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\ffxi\ unless you created a steam library at a different location.

Not saying it shouldn't be made available for purchase on steam, as it should, but don't let it stop you from getting the expansion.

So to be clear in the UK you can order the stand alone expansion but not the full version? If this is the case well done SE you just made the pre-owned market for full install 360 discs sky rocket and killed off any new players who wish to play on 360. I have the 2008 version I was going to buy both versions so I had a spare to install from but guess thats not going to happen.

i know that but it is stopping me from getting the expansion, if its not on steam i'm not getting it. i have bad experience with having to make things run when its partially from steam and partially from some other online store.

? Steam doesn't change the way the game installs, it just puts it in a different place. An install of a non-steam game is the same as the equivalent steam install say for a few variables shifted here and there.

Why not uninstall, download an installer for one of the collection editions (Abyssea, for example) and play using that? That's what I did for my last install. (My Wings of the Goddess was 360 version, my FFXI~ToAU was PC, and my Abyssea was all digital)

That way you can get the expansion and not have to be worried about it being from steam. That's not even piracy, considering you have to have purchased a code to play the game to get online with it.

Somewhere in space... this could be happening right now.

You won't have a bad experience with this. I guarantee it will work. When you buy on steam you're essentially just buying the digital colllection and it installs it for you. It's not like most games on steam.

The only way you could have a "bad experience" is if you did it for a game that wasn't actually put on steam in this fashion.

First of all we would like to apologise for the lack of information on the upcoming expansion for EU players. We understand everyone’s frustrations and we do not take pleasure in making our loyal fans angry.

Some of you are concerned that the expansion will not be released in time. However, rest assured that we will still be releasing Seekers of Adoulin on the 27th March as scheduled.

The PC version will be digital download only so we won’t be running out of copies for sure.
With regards to pre-order information for the PC, we will provide you with concrete details on where you can get it next week.

Once again we are sorry for having to make you wait.
I think you need to go a little further with your apology. I have read several posts from players expressing a concern about how badly you have mucked your release of information to the EU player base. Further, you have deleted these posts, while passionate most were respectful and you have the balls to send an email threatening to drop the ban hammer on these folks. Now you have people that have supported your game for nearly a decade leaving due to this lack of respect on your side and I am angry about it. So what I expect is a very humble and sincere apology on your side and not this weak response you have given. Maybe if you are lucky you will get to keep some of these people that care enough about you game to try to make a difference.

Way to kill the messenger. The community team doesn't control that stuff. All they can do is explain what happened and say they're sorry, and tell the people responsible that customers are upset.

I don't think the community team itself could possibly be more humble and sincere. They have always been good about posting these messages in a respectful manner.

The main thing hits illustrates is a serious communication issue between SE divisions and departments. I dont doubt for a second that they mean their apology with the utmost sincerity- Though obviously there are some critical internal issues (issues that are very common in such large organizations) that need to be addressed.

Iff you would have read true more topics including the one on ffxiah.com , you would have know that US version needs US codes , EU version needs the EU code string.
