Why is this taking so long? Please sort it out, Square-Enix. It's not difficult.

If this is really an attempt at staggering regions because you don't want everyone in the new zones at once ... this is 2013.

Well in their defense, they are stupid for doing the DLC thing but that is the stupid abusive mistake that many companies have been making recently, mostly Capcom from what I understand. Games like Asura's Wrath did the same thing, withholding the ending behind DLC, though to be honest I think SE did it in a much more minor of a way. The DLC ending to FFXIII-2 was not all to informative to me, it explained a small bit of how the plot would go forward, but would I say they kept the real ending for DLC? No.

I am more inclined to blame DLC and the abuse companies have been participating in involving it, such as day 1 DLC and the like, or promotional DLC, things where they add things to the game which are intentionally left out so they can make a few extra bucks. I can not really say I think SE was in the wrong though, they added what seems like a small bit of story to the game, part of what DLC is even meant for, it was meant to bridge to the next game because many people felt the ending kinda just left off on a massive cliffhanger, and that somewhat helped the problem people were having.

On the subject of this game, I have to say I think it is a mistake to quit literally the day after the expansion which is in 13 days where as you said you are quiting in 14. The game may get a lot of new things, the chances are not extremely high, but the chance is there, and I think it is worth giving it at least a chance if you held out this long.

Just re-subcribed after long time away even though final fantasy 14 will be game i focused on, i want try ff11 out for this month and for the expansion.
Will this be a download expansion or just in box?

I got similar question too. But i'm more curious about registration code sales at SE account management system. Seeing SE eshop isn't really friendly to non-NA customers (not sure why this...but even digital sales are troublesome there. When my sister decided to start FFXI at the end of last year i had to buy a Xbox physical box (even though i don't even own a Xbox) because the eshop was "region-picky") i'd love to be able to buy the registration codes directly from account page just like we did with add-ons since client might be easy to find online.
