I personally understand Japan is in crisis, but i doubt they will get out of it if everyone in they country sit down and do nothing. I can understand some have no option and they are left on they own, but i kinda doubt is the case of SE, maybe is too who really know...

Before i continue, i need to say that i found it hella funny when i saw someone post that SE is probably running over a T1 line. ( For sure, you obviously have 0 notion in the domain ) mIRC work on OC3 go figure and is only a chat system.

I for sure can understand the first delay from SE since they was facing a new power rolling announced by TEPCO, but the next day they shut down the server, new information was already released: TEPCO might rolling power until end of April. From that point, no update on situation from SE. Now i am reading more news [so everyone else do] and something got my attention about this disaster, some scientific are calling the shot on this nuclear crisis, they are now saying is gonna take several month if not year before regain control on it. That make you think a bit about it...

Japan lost 4 nuclear reactor, this is serious energy crisis for them, TEPCO said is 25% of they energy they lost, if you do some more research about it you can find this information:

The accident at the Fukushima Daiichi was upgraded to a level 5 rating from a previous 4 on a 1-7 scale, putting it on a par with the Three Mile Island accident in the United States in 1979.
And is not yet the end of story, the rating can still go up depend how all this turn.

But hey let just turn back our eye to SE, as i stated, i understand the first week, the thing that i do not understand is how they explain us how they planning to deal with all this and just update this information:

Re-evaluate? Seriously are you kidding me, SE is just watching and still evaluating at this point? Must be a bad joke of them, i mean seriously i think some of us was expecting more then this. I mean common give us the right time, tell us what is your plan because i think we all worry, worry as much for japan as we worry for SE. Don't tell us what happening in japan we already read it everyday... Tell us about you SE.

So ya, that might explain more the frustration about some fan now, i don't mind wait 1 month if i know they have a plan like moving they server, buying a diesel generator, but please don't come back to me saying standby we have no plan yet we still evaluating the situation, because you all know this mean nothing and they could keep us on hold like this for 1yr and end to say: We apologize everyone due to japan crisis we have to close the game...

I wont repeat it enough, I UNDERSTAND JAPAN HAVE CRISIS, but keep us more informed about you SE not about japan. Doubt everyone wan stay in a sink boat as much i love you all.

It's because the vast majority of players, the non-hardcore, non-fanboy base has an incredibly short attention span. They want their entertainment when they want it. If it isn't there, they go looking somewhere else. When they find it at the new place, they realize "Hey, this is pretty good, and the xyz is even a lot better!"

I figure after a week you'd have 98% returns, only the people who were already letting their sub expire would be leaving. After two weeks you have bored people trying out WoW, Rift, etc for their MMO fix. Now you're dropping to a 90% return rate. Every week you're going to be dropping a little more of your paying base. This means that by doing nothing, they're destroying the population of the returning players, and in turn not only losing out on profits for the month of April, but losing more and more as time goes on.

Again, this goes directly against disaster recovery and planning as it is taught at nearly any college in the country.
Again, the idea that SE has not taken into account these obvious statements is absurd. 2 weeks downtime is very rare in the mmo industry I agree with you. Something that is also very rare in any industry ever known to mankind is a 9.0 earthquake followed by a tsunami, with end result of a possible nuclear meltdown that the country has to rush to prevent. Maybe you are right. Maybe SE just hates money. Maybe not a single person at SE has ever been to college and they need your infinite wisdom to run their company. But I'm just not convinced of that. I think they are doing what they can to secure their families, help their country, and then get things back to normal, in that order, because that is what most sane people would do.
As for leaving them to go to another game. I have no issues with that, I think if you're tired of waiting you should definitely jump ship, No good argument why anyone shouldn't do that. can always come back later anyway. I just don't get why its so hard to understand why they may need time during a crisis like this.

    Enjoy your WoW clone.
I don't understand when people say this, you realise FFXI is an almost direct clone on everquest right?

FFXI is an Everquest clone, something that has no negative impact on it as a game.

There is no such thing, no customers are truely loyal and if there were they would number so low the game would close.

Agreed. I played WOW for about four hours, and while the game itself wasn't bad, the community there is completely different than XI, rather then that sense of being welcomed I got in XI when I first started, I felt like an outcast and felt bullied getting called a noob and being ignored simply because my level was under 10. Just not appealing. I'm willing to wait it out rather than switch to another mmo.
