Yeah VMWare is great & they do most likely use something of the such. IF they are down I would hope that they are at least thinking of this as an option. but we cannot say what SE will do cause they have definitely surprised me before.

I guess many people here know about japanese economics since everyone says how easy it must be to do X or Y things with the servers to keep them running.

This is why there are schools and colleges. Go learn something other than how many beers you can chug at frat parties.

People need to stop caring about other people threatening to leave the game. Let them leave! If they're being jerks about this now, imagine how they act in-game.

Umm what would a bachelors in economics have to do with computer engineering? A lot of the computerized equipment that we use was developed in Japan so if I have "X & Y" here that means they have "X,Y & Z" there.

The thing is, they ARE choosing to sit on their thumbs instead of relocate servers and continue making money. You know why a 2 week downtime is unheard of in the MMO industry? It's because the vast majority of players, the non-hardcore, non-fanboy base has an incredibly short attention span. They want their entertainment when they want it. If it isn't there, they go looking somewhere else. When they find it at the new place, they realize "Hey, this is pretty good, and the xyz is even a lot better!"

I figure after a week you'd have 98% returns, only the people who were already letting their sub expire would be leaving. After two weeks you have bored people trying out WoW, Rift, etc for their MMO fix. Now you're dropping to a 90% return rate. Every week you're going to be dropping a little more of your paying base. This means that by doing nothing, they're destroying the population of the returning players, and in turn not only losing out on profits for the month of April, but losing more and more as time goes on.

Again, this goes directly against disaster recovery and planning as it is taught at nearly any college in the country.

Sadly this is the case but as has been shown of late Square don't really have that great of a business sense, not only are they doing damage to their main title but there hope for the future one too. It's obvious they won't do what almost any other serious company would of done so we jsut have to hope (if we care about FFXI) that the damage done through loss of playerbase won't be as bad as almost everyone with any sense thinks it will. Having feelings for Japan won't stop people going off and getting into the mass numbers of other MMOs out there nor will it guarantee their return when Square turn things back on if they like what they test.

Only one other company took their game servers down and they got them back up in 3-4 days, just a matter of wait and see how it plays out now since common sense eludes most.

Now I do agree with you about some people that come on here strictly to tell people how stupid they are & the such, which is uncalled for. Just cause someone has a bad idea does not make them any less educated, they could very well be more educated 7 the person that is "bashing" is the one that never made it any where's in life cause of his poor attitude towards others'.

After talking with so many people from different servers kinda makes me wish their was just one server. I have met alot of very friendly people on here & it is nice, cause Lakshmi is full of people who's head is so big that they are unable to assist with anyone who has not completed everything they have in the game..

I do understand that A LOT of people have "easy" methods to get the servers up. It is funny reading some of the idea's though like "get 10 diesel generators & just let them run". yes their are limitation to what they can do & you make a valid point that we do not know exactly what their situation is. But it is all just speculation regardless & is nice to just talk about something other then "Leeching is productive" & "Change the lvl cap of Abyssea".
