Should != Can. The game is broken and doesn't function that way. You can't "learn" to tank in a situation like that, or in most situations really; there's no proper framework in place to allow it.

I'm guessing you have never fought ADL or any VW mob for that matter. DDs cap hate in about 4 seconds in zergs and the mob starts doing it's impression of a washing machine agitator. The only thing you can do as a player in these zerg situations to keep hate on one person is do terrible damage. So that may be why my question got likes.
Edit: You quoted me by mistake I guess?

Key word is zerg. Who the hell brings a pld to a zerg (ok some people bring pld for vwnm but that's hardly for tanking, but for procs and add-holding)??? And even if you did bring a pld for ADL, there is no way in hell he'll keep hate, unless the DDs absolutely suck, in which case I question why you're doing ADL in the first place.

I said that a tank class (and in FFXI's case, this is personified in PLD) should be able to tank anything, even in a zerg, for at least 15-20 seconds, depending on monster type, party configuration, etc. Of course, for the the sake of maintaining "balance" (read as: not changing too much about anything in fear of destroying the universe), this does not work.
Moral of the story: even "tanks" can't "tank" in FFXI. And this was a problem long-before VWNMs. Which, by the way, I do every weekend with my LS.
Daniel_Hatcher is one of our best trolls, he also uses multiple sock puppet accounts to like his own posts so that he feels better, as no one else would ever like what he has to say. Take a look at his post history he sits on the forum waiting for a new topic to only post the most stupid statements as the first response. He has yet to constructively contribute to the forum in any way shape or form.
The best approach when encountering this tool is to click on Report Post, and point out that he is Rude, Harassing, and being a troll.
Hopefully after enough of this his account will be banned, and if they do it right, his in game character too.

Obligatory "control hate better."but since someone pulled hate while it was in the middle of the TP move it hit everyone.
Not that it shouldn't be looked at, but I've never heard of this with any other monster.

The only cone it may not work with is the Ironclad style standard cone attack cause the mobs do seem to be stuck in place when they use it. If that's the case, the same mechanic should be added to TP moves.

Just because it's always been like that doesn't mean it's OK:
A rotation of a fan-shaped area is still a fan-shaped area according to Linear Algebra, one of the most important aspects of game development. It's not supposed to EXPAND unless
a.) it was intentional, and the 'rotation' actually causes a completely separate linear application from a fan region to a semicircle region, or
b.) something is wrong, or the death beam is not actually "immediate"; in other words, it literally drags the beam from t = 0 to t = activation time.
I can't imagine it would be a.) because that is just stupid and would be more work for SE in the first place.
EDIT: The game describes such attacks as "fan-shaped area" attacks, so I don't think it's intentional.
