Japanese players are making a push for a PS3 version but one of the reasons they went with FFXIV was because of the hassles of getting FFXI onto the PS3. So it's anyone's guess. However, I am pretty convinced until proven otherwise that the SE higher ups are content with moving on and letting FFXI fade away. So we'll probably never see a PS3 version or expansions to the game ever again due to lack of support. I'm sure the dev team will continue to do whatever they can for as long as we're playing but it's only a matter of time before nostalgia plays it's course and we move on due to lack of commitment from SE. It's a shame but ya know, that's why console MMOs are a bad idea. I just hope it doesn't start rubbing off on everyone else and we start seeing MMos everywhere try to cash in on console sales. It'll just hold the genre back severely...
However, EQ did the console thing right. They released EQ for the PS2 but it was for PS2 only so it had it's own game and server(maybe serverS, not sure with that) It's what SE really should have done with FFXI and they better do it for FFXIV or they'll just face the same issues as they have with FFXI.
