    Re-Installing This Game Frankly Sucks

Why has SE not updated their sale discs/downloads with the current updates?
Hell, at least every year update it! It takes like 5-8 hours on a good connection
just to download all the data then another hour or so installing it.

    Minor problem.
I just believe updating their retail downloads/disks with the updates up
until the retail release would save so much frustration.

I can only imagine the few new players lol "2394839483843948 of 29329394839483 files left. Estimated time: Unknown. -.-"

Downloads should be pretty current...discs won't. That's true for most if not all software you buy on disc.

They should just sync it with Steam to make the most recent version available to download from there. Not sure why they don't. I agree it's a major pain as it is right now.

I agree, I have a pretty fast connection and the update didn't go over 90KB/s. Their "updater" always had horrible problems. Remember the days when a big patch landed and everyone and their mother tried to download it at the same time, subsequently taxing their servers and causing you to d/c or time out? Then you had to start from 0 again. At least now that's fixed.

For the most part it is, but hell when I was trying to reinstall just yesterday I timed out 3 times and it's not
my internet connection lol. But i also think the small update was released same time as I was downloading all the files.
I obviously didn't have priority over mass of small updaters :P

You can just back up the rom folders and paste them in after you install and make quick work of it. You can also use tehkrizz.com and download the updates directly there.

UNLESS you don't use a PC or know how to use one. Then again not many times you have to reinstall on a console (most of the PS2s don't read discs anymore anyway to boot) so the point is moot.

I bought the full collection thinking it would at the least have an updated version on it; at least to a certain point.

I was pretty annoyed when I had to wait a couple hours for the game to update...

You'd think if you're going though the effort of releasing an all-inclusive DVD with all the expansions and what not, that's it'd at least be updated to the point of the expansions...

    Le Sigh...

I don't know how expensive bandwith is, but it's got to be more expensive than sending the right 'master copy' to the DVD print shop.

If they do another collection release, I hope they can make that a priority.

FFFxi has been updated since 2003, there should be a fine line between a finished product and a expandable one. I totally agree Square Enix should at least read this thread with full attention. This a warning to them and their potential software buyers.

    Disregard if you use download:
I wouldn't shell out any cash or credit to in-store releases unless you want to wait a grueling 3+ hours before you actually start dealing with the game. It's a fact that there's discounts to ever bundle being marketed. The final product needs update with every collection released to sell.

Yeah it was just as painful to sit through as it was the first time, several years ago haha.
SE servers knocked me off TWICE when I was updating FFXI, so it ended up taking about 2 days to update >.>

That's why I always have a back up of ffxi on another drive so I don't have to sit through the long update, just the short check for files part.
