yo JP! your PS3 has a crappy HDD, so get a new HDD via Sony or consider windows version because it will not handle FFXI after the next PS3 patch. PS2 will remain unaffected.

Unfortunately it is not the long awaited news of "upgrade to ps3 or PC, PS2 is a goner"

The google translate does mention that the partition on the hard drive would change to 21gb from 12gb and it does seem to mention the PS2 hard drive changing.

You do not need to order a HDD from Sony. Any proper laptop 2,5'' HDD will work, and it doesn't even void the warranty. When I hit the limit of 20GB myself, I backed up the data on a portable HDD(FAT32) via the USB, installed a 300GB HDD, and restored the data back to it.
The only trick involved is to use the proper screwdriver for it, as the blue-metal screw is made of butter and deforms easily.

What this message does seem to suggest is that Sony is making a FFXI-specific version of the PS2 for use on the PS3, and it requires a larger HDD space, larger then the smallest PS3 HDD space sold in stores.

The original PS2 HDD was 20GB , right? What I read it as is this: If you have a 20GB HDD for PS3 gonna have to upgrade. If you got a PS2 that has a 20GB HDD, gonna have to upgrade to a PS3 with a larger HDD? Or Can the PS2 handle a 'custom HDD' and a large capacity one?

Can't read and understand the google translation fully atm since I am about to go out but could this be the start of full blown expansions again? I assume we were getting mini-expansion with reskins etc due to PS2 HD space contract limitations.

On another note. Alittle more info (kinda?) on FFXI on Vita. Though it TECHNICALLY isn't that, Remote Play would seem to let you play it on the Vita through your PS3? http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...s_InGXlw#t=43s Its probably just gonna be actual PS3 games though.

Not to jump to conclusions, but it seems like they're increasing the required partition for FFXI from 12 GB to 21 GB...

That's a pretty damned huge increase, and could mean a few things...

    - Several new areas
    - Planned expansions
    - HD redesign of areas / models / textures (unlikely)
    - Many new models, possible redesign of some equipment, uniqueness, etc
    - New game engine, optimized code
    - Or perhaps none of these...

It's interesting though... a 9 GB increase is a LOT for FFXI...

Basically says if you're playing on a 20 GB version of a PS2 or PS3, you'll need to upgrade the HD, or get FFXI for Windows.

There's no need to make such an announcement for the PC version, as they can just keep adding content... with PS2/3 they need to have Sony increase their HD allotment.

With XBox 360... I'm not entirely sure how that works...

But the important thing to take away from this, is SE anticipates using up to another 9 GB of HD space... (probably quite a bit less, as they'd certainly want too much space than too little... still, 9 GB points to something "big" being added)

    "How do I lock threads?"

Consume the contents of a bottle of Extra Strength Tylonel and then drink a beer. Soon, all threads will be locked.

I would hope they would give an explanation for this when they translate it, it does seem obvious that they want to open the way to release proper big expansions again (since they very often blamed PS2 space issues for many things) but would be nice if they actually said it for once.
