Final Fantasy XI Config not working

I know I seen this alot of times but I really need help my FFXI config isn't working for windows 7 I've installed the POL from the site and installed FFXI but I can't get the config for FFXI to work. Can anyone help me out?

Did you log into POL and go through both the POL Viewer and FFXI updates?

Yeah i finally solved the problem. A friend of mine helped me out and finally got the config to work.

What did he/she do to get it fixed? I recently had to reformat my pc and reinstall everything. Now when I click on the FF config tool, the box is blank and all the only buttons are "Help" and "Default" all else works fine.

I had to reinstall FFXI and POL then get the FFXI update and afterwards the config was now working.

One very common problem here is that there are 3 "FINAL FANTASY XI Config.exe" files on your PC, one only works with EU playonline accounts, one other only works with US playonline accounts and the other seems not work at all (I'd presume it's a base version the other 2 use?) they can be found in your FF11 installation directory under "toolsEU", "toolsUS" and "tools" respectively.

I only found this out because I have the steam version of the game and steam will only let you launch the US version of the config.

@ SilvyrShadow, no idea there but it sounds like the config can,t find the game's installation, try un-installing it use some sort of registry cleaner then re-install (yeah I know that's a pain). Ensure the game is installed on the C drive (or wherever you have your OS installed), anywhere else causes various problems with almost any piece of software.

Ok, so I am having this same trouble as well. I have downloaded the game using steam, which I am wondering whether or not was a good idea!

I started playing it yesterday, and I thought the graphics were a little bad, but decided to put up with it. Anyway, today I decided I was going to play with it with the xbox controller, so went into steam, pressed play, and selected FFXI Config. Changed all the settings, controller, graphics etc and saved it, pressed play, went to play the game and... Nothing...

So anyway, I went to have a look online and read somewhere that both the Play Online and the FFXI settings had to be changed to controller, so I changed that too and saved it...

SUCCESS!! Play online recognised my controller and I get get to the game no problem using my controller. As soon as you press play on the first FFXI screen where it opens up to full screen however, was it. Nothing after that, still full screen even though I had decided to have the settings put to windowed mode. Still bad graphics, and still not working with the controller. Now I've had a look online a little bit and everything says something about a certain folder?

Program Files/Steam/steamapps/common/ffxi/SquareEnix/FINAL FANTASY XI/ToolsUEU. and then to Run the Program FINAL FANTASY XI Config??

Yeah, that file doesn't exist. I do not have that file on my computer. How I get to the Final Fantasy Xi Config is through steam, which then doesn't update my game... Any help?! Please?!

Yikes, this is a bump of a very old thread. The issue you are describing sounds like a settings issue. You may need to update the drivers for the controller you're using by going to the controller manufacturer's website and getting he latest version or checking Windows Update for any new options. In regards to the graphics being low quality you may want to investigate the Graphics part of one of the community sites for some of the tweaks you can make to the game to get it running up to your standards.
