I used to run the game on a PC with a Pentium 4 and Intel Extreme Graphics. If my old PC could run the game, there's no reason any PC that isn't worse than that can't run it.
The official benchmark program for FFXI: http://www.playonline.com/ff11eu/dow...nchmark01.html
If a PC can run Windows Vista, which is a memory hog, I'm almost certain it could play FFXI. Even at base settings on a PC, it will look better than on PS2, and probably better than on a 360.
Minimum System Requirements
Operating System: Windows® XP/Vista/7
CPU: Intel® Pentium®III 800Mhz or faster
Memory: 128 MB RAM
Graphics Card: NVIDIA® GeForce™ series with 32 MB or ATI® RADEON™ 9000 series
Sound Card: DirectX®8.1 compatible sound card
Hard Drive Space: 9.5 GB free hard disk space
Other: Keyboard, mouse, DirectX8.1 (included with install disc)
Thanks Maacha, I'm gonna DL it and see.
My specs:
Operating System: Windows® Vista
CPU: Intel® Pentium® Dual-Core E5200 @ 2.50GHz 2.50GHz
Memory: 3G RAM
Graphics Card: Unknown, factory standard. Windows Experience Index rates the comps Gaming Graphics at a low 3.2, while other areas are at 5ish.
The benchmark rated me at 3300 (Very Tough) for low res, 2400 (Even Match) for high res.
I think I'll give it a shot and hope for the best. Thanks for all the input!
No matter what you do, your new copy won't start as well. It throws a "dirty disc" error but in fact the issue is the FFXI hard drive files which were SIGNED digitally for the old console and the new console can't read due to not having the console contents access key (which is unique per console).
Go to the dashboard and choose "CLEAR CACHE" then the XBOX360 dashboard will get rid of the whole FFXI install allowing you to reinstall on your new console.
Hope this works for you.
It's a little dumb that the PlayOnline viewer disc was programmed in a such way it cannot be started if you move the harddrive from a console to another, but that's how things go. Also that's why Microsoft added the FFXI files to the "CLEAR CACHE" file deletion list.
Otherwise you would need to full format your harddrive...![]()
Yeah that PC will be fine. You may not be able to turn up the settings to high, but it should run just fine. I'm sure you probably could find a video card that will run on your stock power supply. It wouldn't be a high-end card, but you don't need one for FFXI. It can't hurt to do some window shopping at least, but even without an upgrade you'll be able to play.
I went to the "Clear System Cache" on the HD menu and tried again, I got the exact same error that the disc could not play and to try installing again (install of the disc via the Dashboard is not supported).
It isn't the same hard drive I used in the past. I upgraded from an old model to the newer black model, and transfered all game saves from the old HD to the new, and went through the proper license transfer procedures with MS to have the licenses on my new 360. When looking at the memory of the new HD, POL and FFXI are no where to be found.
360 disk reading is lovely isnt it. i have the same problem sometimes. Basically one disk will stop reading. To change this I put in my other disk. I have an original game plus a WOG disk. If the WOG disk stops reading the original will read, if the original stops reading the WOG disk will read. Hopefully you have more than 1 disk to try.
Never got the WotG for the 360, I played on PS2 primarily. It doesn't seem like a disc read error from the msg it gives.
I would try and call for support, bit I can already see SE telling me to call MS and MS telling me to call SE.
