On a more serious note that goes with the theme of this thread, I would find it very refreshing to obtain some of our scrolls and the like from quests. We've had fifteen straight levels of everything new coming from NPC vendors or chests in Abyssea. Even if they just drop from appropriately themed BCNM fights, it would "feel" good after getting so many spells from chests or a Galkan entrepreneur whose name I can't even recall.
Not a big deal compared to content or balance issues, but it would be a nice addition.
Nice Sig, The context will be forever lost in this thread now, and people will forever go "Where the hell did that come from and what context is in it?".
I'm giggling thinking about people staring at it trying to figure out. Almost in a Lewis Black way. (Anyone watch his stand up? The joke about the Horse getting the girl through college?)
Anyway, I agree with you completely, I feel a lot of this content is being given to us in the quickest way possible because of, frankly, the bitching going on for more content. They're trying to keep up happy and release content quickly, as such, quality suffers in exchange for Quantity.
All of these things should be released after level 99 (The topic of this thread, i mean), so they can be taken slow and done correctly. The quest i made on page 1 itself would likely take a good chunk of development time. I just hope they care enough about FFXI after nearly a decade to still provide quality story and detail to the game. Not everyone loves it, but for those who do play an RPG for the story, we appreciate the effort.
Take the 3 Add-ons for instance, Despite mixed reviews, I found the storylines of them really well done and awesome, (The first one, not so much, Would it have been so hard to make Aldo and his Sister remember eachother, FFS???) .
I was actually thinking about that. With the new Red Mage mini-2hour and the Black Mage mini-2hour that you can cast on party members, it might be possible that SE plans on adding a spell that costs 10000 MP and has a casting time of an hour to the game.
I was going to make a thread about it, themed around the three mage gate, and taking all three mages to cast, given these new abilities, with the obvious choice of naming, but this would have drawn ire from geomancers who think they deserve it more.
Well, that and the way Comet (and possibly Meteor) works is already setup around getting more mages to cast it for more damage.
SE is already not going to add Banish IV or Banishga III right away to White Mage, and they're already giving Black Mage Comet, so what's the harm in holding that back a month or two until they have it tied to a good quest? If they must release it, they could make it a super rare drop from King Behemoth until they do manage to setup a quest...
Aside from ACP being a bit weird, they are interesting, although very light-hearted and more humorous then serious.
I liked the Light-hearted aspect to those quests. They were fun, and some of the cutscenes were just hilarious/awesome.
That aside, Yeah, i really would not mind waiting a while after 99 to get some quests like that. Anyone from SE reading this, You have my express consent to make what i typed into a quest without giving me diddly squat! (not that it'll ever happen but hey, Giving them my consent)
Edit:Its really the reason i want to become a game Designer some day. I know, nerds fantasy, But its always interested me, back even in the days of playing Mario on my SNES... I love imaging things, But i know Imagination rarely gets you far in that business. Going to school to learn perhaps.
Or just write a book good enough to pitch it to a game design company to make a game out of.
Yeah, I also thought the add-ons were well made for what little of them there was. One of the things that I've always liked about FFXI is that there's plenty of story content to duo with my best friend when we just want to hang out together.
The final fights were really well designed, also. I would have liked more fights, but I thought the gimmicky designs worked very well for that sort of thing rather than making them beat your numbers to death with their numbers.
