The company I work for has, on more than one occasion, reduced electrical usage and even shut down if requested by our power supplier in order to prevent brownouts or rolling blackouts. We tend to look at the bigger picture.

And... I'm sure there's another monetary upside to that as well when re-negotiating their power contract and reducing their rates.

Hate to see what happens when (and if. I'm pretty sure they'll be down for more then a week) SE says the servers are going to be down another few weeks after this week has passed. All the little anti-socials will cut themselves. Oh well, selfish people will be selfish people.

No negotiating power contracts. We pay the electric bill when it comes in no matter what it is. We use a lot of power but not enough to justify negotiating rates. I wish we could, but we can't. The thing that really kills us with the power bill is the fuel adjustment charges that go up and down based on the cost of the fuel needed to run the generators at the power generating plant. If we don't pay the bill, they turn off the power.
