Did 29 floors last night on 3 tags to help someone climb / farm tokens with 4 characters and 3 players. He ended up going from 56 to 81 and I net about 10k tokens. He'll get to 100 the next time we can get a real player to help us.

Most important part: I got a Spelunker's Hat

It's "obsolete" in the sense that it's "fun" instead of convoluted and gimmicky.

It's quick and self-contained, get it or you don't, rather than farming for time, farming for pop items, farming for trophies, and there goes your day.

It's new and different every time. Yes, it's obsolete. More to the pity.

    I wouldn't say that lol.

It's still the same enviroment, its' still the same enemies, it's still the same objectives (Kill all, lamps, family, etc). It's hardly new or refreshing. Stop trying to be cool and taking a jab at abyssea.

Most people I know of who have done Nyzul almost fear redoing it due to the annoyance of getting lamps. Lamps suck really bad.. If Nyzul were a box of chocolates, Lamp floors would be that chocolate that's filled with the toothpaste-like substance.

I wouldn't say that. Yes, the variety of objectives are fixed. Yes, the variety of mobs and NMs are fixed. But...

One run, you could get kill everything (Monks and Blues rejoice!), Lamps-Code, Kill NM Flan, Free Floor! And the boss is just Khimaira. Next run you get Lamps-order, kill all Soulflayers and don't let gear detect you, followed by kill everything but don't kill gear (leading to confusion amongst party members), kill specified enemy with multiple NMs on the floor (leading to more confusion amongst party members), and if you survive all that, kill Cerb. Joy... but that little bit of occasional frustration gave a real sense of victory when you won.

You will not get the same run every time. There is always going to be some variable that makes it different. Maybe a random buff, or no white magic, who knows?

Stop trying to be cool and argue with me.

This event was one of the things I always looked forward to for what I scheduled for my week in FFXI. I remembered the climb, I remember who I went with and staticed with for gear afterwards.

Something it had going for it was that it was random, but it wasn't as static as Einherjar; you had to move around, but with purpose; find the NM, find your way back to the exit, find the lamps. This event was fun! Not fun for drop rates, not fun for (x) easy mode, fun because it was challenging and fun to do.

It isn't really that hard to find 2 other people to get to floor 100. This is very easy at level 90.

    It'sa dead-end...

As for the topic, it is not obsolete in my opinion.
It's actually not long since I finished climbing (did it mainly with a party of 3, it can get rough, but it is doable).

I still want some weapon skills and equipment from there, but my friend I did it with does not play anymore/again\for now... perhaps never will. =\

I never liked to go with random people, though, and I imagine it can be very hard to find those for it now. More the reason to recommend doing it with friends.

I am interested to see how they will tweak Assault, though I imagine it might merely be lowering the time for new tags... but even so, there is hope for more!

Nothing challenging about basic memory. Better yet leaving one person at the exit or any number of ways to make it faster. With a static it was a lol cake walk. Only real challenge it offered was if you did it with random pick up groups.

Lamp floors were also the easiest floors and could be done the fastest IF your group used vent or any voice chat. If you took a blu or brd you wouldn't have to worry about much, light based sleeps and dispels covered, and blu non white magic cures.

Like every other event in FFXI a little preplaining and repetition makes everything easy. While the lay out changes the mobs may change but the way the game works never changes nor does the mobs behavior. So stop acting like nysul was some kind of great event that proved how skilled you were compaired to people that do abyssea.

I'd like to get ON floor 1 ... in the last month on Shiva there has been MAYBE 4 shouts in Port Jeuno for 75+ NI, and none what so ever for aything under that. What about those of us who either have never done it at all, or the people on a new character who would like to start fresh????
