If you're going to go by game lore, well, I suspect places like San d'Oria wouldn't be in support of gay marriage, so you wouldn't get married in San d'Oria, but maybe you should in Windurst who seem a lot more laid back. But it's a fantasy game, sure it takes inspiration from History and the mythology and religions of several different cultures, it doesn't mean there's any kind of Historical accuracy to it. Heck the game constantly breaks consistency for features, so why would it really matter?

And I think as marriage has been added for kicks and fun there's no reason there should be any restrictions on which players want to pair up. As said, it's not real marriage. If somebody would rather go for the proper thing in the game for the little 'M' above their head, then let them, after all, those two cat ladies could be a manthra and his girlfriend, so it's not just homosexual marriages being prevented (heck a manthra could easily marry his hume M boyfriend, so really gay players can have their marriages).

Galka... a race of men only.
Mithras... a race with a 100/1 ratio of women to men.

You telling me there Isn't some brotherly love going on there? Isn't some sisterly love?

    Puuuleaze.

Gay marriage should be in the game. It just makes sense. I mean its not like any of the races interbreed... apart from the one and only case in the entire game (you know who.. a little humelvaan girl we all know and love).

    The took our jerbs!!

    oops wrong thread.

In all seriouslness though just add the ability to marry anyone...it's an ingame marriage system, it's not something serious. It's just some fun roleplaying RL in a game, who cares what marries what. Not like any of us even really see people getting married ingame or there being anything that effects anyone else ingame from it happening anyway.

Add then, if you could really play a fish, then get that married too and yes, I am being serious, I often introduce myself to Japanese players as, "I am a fish" (watashi wa sakana desu), so I could easily have dressed up as a Sahagin in my fake gay wedding (which was also just a bit of fun), though my ingame partner wouldn't have appreciated it, he had me come in my subligar. We're not really a couple, but it made for a brilliant LS event. Having the little 'M' above our heads would be brilliant in commemorating that event.

Haters gonna hate, complainers gonna complain. Happens in every aspect of life. But seriously come on guys, it is still a game, some of you might have forgotten that or fell too obsessed with it that they attach themselves to their characters, and detach themselves from RL. I used to play relentlessly and I could feel it hindering my RL and effecting my thought process, I was getting real "complainy" over every little thing in game and out of it.

SE is busy adjusting mechanics and game balance and people worry about this crap. In a video game it is trivial. You are not your character, you are you, detach yourselves.

LOCK this thread because this is clearly a issue of cultural difference, lifestyle difference and very controversial, inviting people to rant on and on.

I don't support the homosexual agenda. It's happening in RL, in home depot and in the military and now attacking marrage and family institutions!

Be wary Square, stay neutral and forget these type of people exist in the game.

Marriage is traditionally between a human man and a human women, nothing else, if you have a problem with that, go make something else for bob and steve and don't call it marriage. While I agree they should have legal protection under the law and the same rights as married people if that's what they want, they cannot get 'married.' It's stupid to change old traditions just to make a few liberals happy. Marriage is a privilege, not a right. That's why you cannot marry fish, or horses, or dogs, or the sofa or your character on love+, marriage is between a human man, and a human woman, in the terms of the the game that would be any of the evolved intelligent races as long as they were opposite genders.

Marriage may traditionally be between a man and a woman. It used to traditionally be between cousins and even 12 year olds (It still is in some countries). It used to be tradition that women would stay at home and raise the kids whilst men went to work. It used to be tradition that fathers would have to marry their daughters off because they weren't allowed to work, even leading to forced and unwanted marriages because of this tradition. It used to be tradition that marriage was between a white man and a white woman, never a black man and a white woman (or vice versa). It used to be tradition for leaders to be chosen by blood and not by merit or public vote. It was traditional for people to swear allegiance to the Queen or King and country and deal with it, not to revolt like with the American Revolution.

Why do we have to listen to tradition? Sure we get a lot of whiny liberals, but they're only whiny about civil rights really, if we didn't have people whining about civil rights because we ought to do things by tradition then we would really wouldn't have any rights. Rights haven't been granted because leaders have been 'nice' but because whiny people got their heads together and fought for them. I suspect when people were calling for interracial marriage they threw the same arguments, "well, why don't I marry a fish?", "it's breaking the tradition of marriage because it's between a white man and a white woman", "marriage is a holy thing and it is indecent to mix blood with another race!" Heck, I've even spoken to Christians who call being black 'having received the curse of Ham' and claim that it makes them automatic sinners. Now, we are able to call these people bigots.
