as for my wifey and myself we're both disgusted over the fact that like most of the people have said, the loyal players who have bought each and every expansion at full price are left without.

This isn't a marketing ploy to get you to give them more money, this is to save from the loss known as FF:XIV and we're still paying SE for not going over to it and staying on FF:XI. The more we dish out to SE for these things the less of a loss they can claim on that repulsive game.

Until SE actually says they are attempting to make a real update for XI i personally think all money made from this game is being dumped into XIV. Pull the plug on XIV not the PS2 of XI lol.

Yeah.. xiv is pretty bad.. even with all the new changes. And you are exactly right, this is kind of a last hurrah, they are going to make every penny they can off of ffxi

Yea but those in game items are just for fun, and don't have amazing stats. It's a completely separate thing from when you purchase the expansions. It reminds me of RMT. But instead of gil, they sell you in game items that you can get nowhere else.

And WoW has more Class(Job) balance than FFXI, and it has PvP that people actually participate in.

While we're on that topic, why haven't they update Ballista/Brenner to make PvP more appealing?

Because there's no money in it.

Adoulin is installed but still not lighting up on your title screen? Here's what to do:
Go to https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/login?cont=account and log in, then Select Service >>> PlayOnline / FINAL FANTASY XI >>> Add a service account (blue button) >>> input expansion software registration code.

I think the comment on SE now being the RMT is more true then anything else i can really say, making us pay real money to get a new helmet that will help with leveling any other jobs we want to dabble in isn't right, just like that new skill-up ring that is from the brown chests, something everyone wants/needs.

SE needs to stop worrying about fixing 14 and start refocusing on XI to fix some big issues, not rehashing old content. Its like throwing a stick for a sick dog to chase, makes him happy to get attention but not really taking care of the problem.

SE doesn't spam you with /tells
SE doesn't camp NMs to sell the drops (both Rare/Ex and otherwise)
SE doesn't undercut items on the AH, then jack prices way up once nobody else is selling
SE doesn't deflate the value of gil by selling tons of items to NPCs
Oh, and SE doesn't sell you gil for cash, either.

Pretty sure SE isn't looking very much like RMT.

SE isn't making you pay real money to get a new helmet, either.

This is what you pay money for: PlayOnline, FINAL FANTASY XI Online, Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urhgan, Wings of the Goddess, A Crystalline Prophecy, A Moogle Kupo d'Etat, A Shantotto Ascension, Vision of Abyssea, Scars of Abyssea, Heroes of Abyssea.

This is what you get for free as an extra 'thank you' for purchasing the new collection: A reward code to give one character on an account a Destrier Beret.

If you buy PlayOnline, FINAL FANTASY XI Online, Rise of the Zilart, Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urhgan, Wings of the Goddess, A Crystalline Prophecy, A Moogle Kupo d'Etat, A Shantotto Ascension, Vision of Abyssea, Scars of Abyssea, Heroes of Abyssea without actually having any need for any of it, just to get an extra 'thank you' for purchasing the new collection then you have no one to blame but yourself.

just like that new skill-up ring that is from the brown chests, something everyone wants/needs.
Nobody needs that. You might feel you need it, but you don't. That's just impatience speaking.

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice item. But it's a want, not a need.

SE needs to stop worrying about fixing 14 and start refocusing on XI to fix some big issues, not rehashing old content. Its like throwing a stick for a sick dog to chase, makes him happy to get attention but not really taking care of the problem.
What? No. SE needs to worry about fixing XIV because they need it to be good enough to charge subscription fees for it. Even though it will never be the fiscal powerhouse they had hoped for, there are a lot of people playing it for free right now, and if they can get the game to the point where most of those players will pay subscription fees for it, then it will eventually break even and turn a (likely modest) profit.

Dropping FFXIV, dropping PS2 support, neither of these will substantially increase the development time devoted to FFXI or remove the 'PS2 limitations' from the game.

PS2 limitations, such as they are, are tied into the way the game was made, the way the server code was made. Dropping active PS2 support does not remove the limitations that were written into the code when it was made in first place.

If SE drops FFXIV as a failed project, they are much more likely to send that staff to a new project than they are to send them back to FFXI. You get a lot more money out of a successful new game launch than you do out of a modest increase in subscription fees from a nine-year-old game.

    Kinda-sorta-not-really.

Steam requires you to at least start installing a game to access your 'CD Key' (Registration and Reward codes.)
If you already have a retail version of FFXI installed, even starting this process and immediately pausing it will cause your registry entries for FFXI to be altered from your retail version to the steam version.

    At this point you have two options: 1) uninstall retail version, uninstall steam version, reinstall steam version;

    2) copy your entire PlayOnline folder ( C:\Program Files\PlayOnline\SquareEnix\ ) into your Steam folder ( C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\ffxi\SquareEnix\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ffxi\SquareEnix\ ) and then launch POL and use the Check Files command before logging into your POL account to run a file check/error fix on both POL and FFXI. The file check and error fix will take quite a while, but it's still much faster than reinstalling and patching, and you should keep all your macros (but you want to back them up before you do this anyways.)

The better option is to get your registration or reward code off of a computer you don't have FFXI already installed on. That avoids having to deal with registry fun times.
