I have a question, I think I know the awnser to, but I want to be 100% sure.
With the new expansion comming out I've unwillingly bought a 360 to be able to play it. I am getting a copy of the 360's 2006 collection (For free, to hold me over till release of the newer SoA collection disc.), and it does not have WotG. My account for my PS2 has all the add-on's/expansions. When I install and add my account I know I will have access to everything un-WotG wise, but my question is. Since I don't have an install disc for WotG, will I be able to still access it through the update? Or am I stuck with out it till I get the new SoA collecters disc?:confused:
(I can still play on PS2, just wanting to try and get ready/used to the xbox controles.)

Somewhat snarky comment aside, I'm not really sure what you're asking. If you don't have WOTG installed, you can't access WOTG areas or content, regardless of whether you have it on your account or not. You will not recieve the expansion data from patching. From the sound of it that should answer your question. -

Maybe he or she simply does not want to move his or her (possibly noisy and huge) computer to the living room. Or maybe they don't want to move their 50" TV into the computer room. Or maybe they don't have any more free HDMI inputs on their TV, and don't feel like messing with a HDMI switch. Or maybe something completely different.

Wife plays with me, she plays on the PC. I'm not into spending $500+ for a pc/laptop when i can get the xbox for $125.
Ok I figured I wouldn't be able to, just wanted to be sure. Since I'm getting to SoA collection, I'll just hang to the side with the PS2 untill then.
Edit: All HDMI are full, Yes I prefer my 42" over a smaller screen. Both are in the same room. lol
Edit2: No I hate PC's/laptop/notbooks. I work on them, I know what's possable to happen to them. Viruses, hacks, Key loggers ect.. I prefer a safer way to game. -

WoTG requires data files off a disc to play, it's not just downloaded through SEs update servers like the recent mini-addons from the past couple years.

FFXI does not use xbox servers, therefore your traffic with the game is no more or less secured than it is for anyone on the PC. You're only kidding yourself if you think it's safer. Safe computing practices protect you from all the things you described better than the xbox or any server side security can. Also beware people playing on a PS3, as the hardware encryption keys for the system were supposedly leaked recently, making it much easier to hack on the PS3. The same thing could concieveably happen to the xbox, or any computing hardware you can imagine.
TL;DR: The safest way to game is to be smart, understand security threats and how to protect yourself from them, rather than relying on your machine to do it for you.

All you do is install everything and reactive all exp/add-ons through playonline when you log in. The CD is just to install the basic exp then it will update.

Although none of that is necessary, there are things outside of your browser you can do to prevent that (customized HOSTS file), and that's only needed in the first place if you go to dubious websites or follow the links fake GMs send you in the game. When was the last time you manually upgraded your anti-virus program? Or your operating system? Or performed an anti-virus check? It all happens automatically now. There's hardly anything at all you have to do. When you install Windows 7 and start it for the first time it even prompts you to install an anti-virus program and offers you several choices. Still not convinced? Use a token. That's as perfect as protection gets. The only way to get hacked using a token is to hijack a live running session, and a) that may happen outside of your local network, so it could happen on consoles as well, and b) I have never heard of that happening and I seriously doubt RMT use that because it's not something any script kiddie can achieve. And if they actually did hijack your session, they don't actually obtain your password, only a currently running session. That means they can't actually change your password, or prevent you from just logging in again (or a friend, if it was indeed a local attack and they're intercepting communications with SE's servers) and thereby logging them out automatically. So that is only effective if you're actually afk when it happens.
I set up a perfectly secure computer for my brother the other day, from zero (perfectly as in reasonably for any and all kinds of gaming and general internet transactions). Took about two hours, and all I did was click "next" and confirm updates suggested to me by the system. Not once did I have to turn on my brain to actually make a decision until it offered me a list of anti-virus software, and then I may have just selected one by random as well. You can go ahead and call that "good with computers", I'd rather call people who can't do that lazy (or functionally retarded, whichever you find less offending). -

You mostly just need common sense, e.g. don't visit or download stuff from unknown websites without checking with other people you trust first, install an antimalware program and make sure it's working and up to date and you use it, don't share your accounts / passwords /etc with anyone, keep Windows up to date, keep firewall turned on, yada yada yada. Virtually all security comprimises are preventable. Oh, and use the security token. virtually any breach while using the token is going to be entirely your own fault; but Account restores on accounts with the token are exempt from the one-time restore policy.Quote:
