SE really?! really 99 cap boss this hard?!?!

I have to confess, this limit break worries me a great deal. I managed to handle all the others that have come up but seeing as all the shouts I've seen are for a summoner with alexander or four beastmasters, I can't help but feel like im going to struggle to get this done.

I agree with the notion about how this is only going to get harder with time too. I know the answer most people are pointing out is "go and find people who have already done it to help you!" but realisitcally, how many people do you think are going to go back to help someone they don't know? In my general experience, people who have cleared a battlefield are highly unlikely to turn around and go back and do it again for fun.

The fight is NOT HARD. there's NOTHING to worry about. Even if you do end up finding it hard, you should be enjoying the good challenge. As far as finding people, Anyone that's level 96 or above is automatically able to help you, and there is no level cap, so bringing 99 players will make it all the more easy.

There's a simple solution to your problem. Start the party yourself. If people in the party bring weakness items, you can win with any sensible job combination. Even without them, if the team plays well, it's a perfectly winnable fight. I highly reccomend having a summoner regardless of strategy- but there's no shortage of summoners out there, as any visit to Walk of Echoes in the last month or two can attest- Summoner is one of those jobs that everyone plays but doesn't use often. It is, however, completely winnable without a summoner (You can also use a scholar sub red mage to get some of the same benefits, though not quite as potent). Bard is nice to have for sentinel's scherzo and/or marches. Monks are great, Thieves and dancers shine once again (1h weapons have a major advantage here due to the "cap" on damage).

Just buckle down, grab some people, and devise a strategy with what you have to work with. It might take you a few tries if your group isn't as sound as you'd like, but you can do it.

This fight is no harder than Maat was for most jobs back in the day.

I will admit at first thought I was like damn my 2 mules don't have any of the jobs peeps are using to get the win. So I decided to farm the fossil bones and fangs up. I never thought the fight would end up being that super easy with just 2 tails and ranged attacks and nukes. A sam on follow on the taru I am sure could get ws off the always did on me running in brenner lol. But best would be just sub rng for sidewinder spam old school style. He takes normal damage while the tail is up and its easy enough to go balls to the wall when he is racing around lol. A bet 2-3 geared BLMS or 2-3 rangers could take him after doing the fight.

Any advice for farming bones? Every mob I tried recently seems to be capable of murdering me in 3 to 4 hits. After it's murdered my friend on monk that is.

What the heck are you fighting that "murders you in 3-4 hits?"

The fossilized items are not that hard to come by; I found the fang with a couple friends in bost. oubliette thoguh you caon undoubtedly get them with a better drop rate on VTs.

I'm pretty sure they're sellable too, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Take a look on wiki on nearly all the mobs listed for the bone? I tried Bats in Uleguerand Range but after 3 hours of no joy I tried some of the other stuff. Considering most of the listed mobs are level 96 and up, I'd wager a guess at most of them being able to kill me?

T mobs would take more than "3-4 hits" to kill me even if I was naked and stood there doing nothing. Many jobs can solo the dropping mobs, yours included.

Also, they more or less drop from the same mobs that drop seasoning stones- which is many EXP-giving mobs found in Original/Zilart areas. Fighting VTs willl give you the best drop rate.

You are a dragoon. You should be able to solo Tough mobs with ease. Sub BLU and use a cheap spell to get healing breath. And even if you can't, you should be able to get ONE PERSON at least to help you out.

My apologies if this sounds mean-spirited- but it's not meant that way. But you may need to re-think how you're going about this if just getting the items is giving you this kind of trouble.

Thanks for the drg soloing master class. Ironically I soloed drg to level 70, including my own testimony for the very reason that I enjoyed the challenge of solo play. I spent most of the evening last night in Dangruf Wadi fighting crabs and gibbons which resulted in a net gain of 6 seasoning stones and 4 fangs for the party. I have not seen a single bone drop. I have tried Bilesuckers in Uleguerand. Again, no joy. Is the drop rate that bad? Or is this just a massive time sink? Because 5-6 hours of farming should result in one drop at the very least as far as im aware.

My suggestion is to ignore the seemingly Elitist shouts.

Your PLD doesn't need an Ochain/Aegis
You don't need a SMN and if you use one, it doesn't need Alexander.
You don't NEED BSTs, you don't NEED SMNs, you don't NEED PLDs.

Ignore the pathetic shouts and make a group yourself.

You might want to check bazaars. By now, a lot of people have beaten the level cap fight and you'll likely be able to find a bone/fang at a price you can live with.

Soloed IT Boulder Eaters for two hours and got no Bone. It's just a really awful drop rate.

I only saw bones on the peapuks, crawlers and crabs in the B. tree and only saw fangs in Gustav Tunnel on the worms and Turtles. I just did the high level GOV and got merits and all of the items needed.

I can't seem to find how to create another Tail once you have won. I have just assumed that it is not a repeatable thing. Does anyone know for sure?

Took me three tries. The first try was with my PLD. I'm not really a fan of it so it's only decently geared (some Emp+1, honorbound and a Seigneur Shield). With full buffs up I was one shotted the second we engaged. The second was also with my pld, and I lasted a little longer but we still wiped at around 60%. We had a set up of pld, drg, whm, blm, thf, mnk

Chalked it up to my pld not being up to snuff so we went in with 4 BLMs and two random extras. Used two tails and it was super easy.

As far as farming we went as a group so I couldn't give a solo story. I can say that we got our bones from Kuftal and our fangs from Gustav, and the fangs have a terrible drop rate.

I can see where people might have a hard time further on down the road considering how little people help for even the 50 or 55 caps. It won't be impossible, just annoying if you don't have a supportive linkshell or enough gil to pay people for the help.

I'm going to call bull on this. Even if you had only Perle, there is no possible way you would have been one shotted the moment the fight started.

The only possible way for this to happen on even a poorly geared PLD would be for the Taru to open with a Ascetic's Fury followed by Final Heaven for a Light chain. And in all the times I've done the fight, he's never opened with a skillchain.

I could see an abyssea burned, not-skilled-up PLD getting wrecked by a single WS. Not saying that's what Sealdorie is, and it'd probably take a degree of bad luck for that to happen, but it is possible.

For my gear I am only +1 Emp head, hands, and legs, Dornen Schuhs, twilight torque, honorbound, and Seigneur, creed waist piece. As far as the rest I'd have to go look it up because I'm pretty sure they weren't anything decent.

He may have gotten another hit in before or after, but surely wasn't enough time for a heal (or for me to notice the time between engaging and being on the ground). After reading some strategies, I did not have phalanx up the first time. I did the second, and that along with the fact that he did not open with a weapon skill helped a great deal.

It was probably an attack round with a follow up asuran fists that did you in, lack of phalanx as well. I wasn't trying to imply you're gimp or anything like that, so my mistake if that's the impression that was created.

Although I guess I should add some context for my statement. With Ochain, Asuran Fists is a joke. Most of his WS's are. Although I can cite one time where he hit a freakishly hard Victory Smite against me for 1k+, when it's usually less than half of that. A missed block, criting his WS, I still can't explain it to this day. Fought him at least 4 times after that, and he's never hit #'s that high again (so far.)

So with that in mind, I could see someone without Ochain or capped skill (but still high skill) getting an unlucky WS to the face out of the gate resulting in a 1 shot. It's not as impossible as Alerith makes it sound.

been seeing the bone/fangs for ~200k in bazaars. Have to do the math against your gil farming rate to see if it's worth it or not.

We needed several sets for our fight. Think it was 2 complete and 3 partial. We did the tigers in Kuftal (behind the stone that goes up and down, all the way in back, past the wyverns) and the skeletons in Onzozo north of Ose. Took us I think 3 hours to farm everything up.

And no, you don't relaly need a specific setup for this win. Beginning to wonder if everyone has forgotten their CoP fight strategies. That's basically how we won ours, and we had more or less a standard party setup really.

It's all about your strategy...knowing your strengths (and weknesses) and adjusting accordingly. Granted there are a few things that help. solme things that I've seen come up in various threads about this fight (all over the place...can't believe the crapstorm that has developed over this thing):

Strong damage mitigation for you tank. Whether that is gear on a PLD, or a RDM or SMN buffing up the tank.

Someone that can hold hate well, and someone that can heal him/her well.

Everyone needs to be mindful of the games hate mechanics. Need to keep the runt focused on the person with the damage mitigation as much as possible.

Multi-hit WS (esp. if dual weilded weapons) make a BIG difference in how fast you can take this guy down. To that end, having TP before going in goes a long way--it goes in with you (protip: opo opo necklace...again, older fight strategies).

Subtle-Blow effect can be a factor as well--MNK with Penance or NIN to debuff TP gain etc.

Have the olede rarerab tails on hand for those "oh Sh!t" moments. Just like with the earlier CoP fights, using these things at the right time can sometimes make/break the fight.

Have clear instructions for what everyone is supposed to do. If you are throwing tails, have a specific order. Maybe even a macro to use and announce it in party chat.

Someone should be the leader. Do NOT underestimate the value of this. Having someone who knows what they are doing in these kinds of fights goes a LONG way. I wouldn't have gotten crap done at all without the strategic mind of our resident BST that at times almost literally dragged me through some of ZM, CoP, TAU, and WotG. I won't deniy it....I'm about as blonde as they come with some of these fights. Some people simply need someone calling the shots so they don't get themself (or everyone else) killed.

If what you are trying isn't working.....try something else. Go back and read up on your big CoP fights to get some ideas. If you did these things post the uncapping, then you may not know what I'm talking about....but the strategies are still out there on the Wiki--go to the talk pages and read up on what everyone went through doing these things over the years. Some LS sites still have the "old school" fights up on their boards too. Might find some if you google the boss fights.

My very first post was not trying to make the fight seem hard as I was only recanting my experience with it given the options my group had. I was the only person that had PLD leveld, and I happened to have collected some gear for it while doing other things so we gave it a shot. The first attempt was before we did much more than read what was required to enter the fight, and we had a rude awakening.

Aeonk, I didn't think you were implying anything. I don't know why I feel the need to defend myself in the first place, or why instead of helpful comments about my fight or my PLD set up I'm getting insults (not you Aeonk). Maybe my original post came off wrong?

If I were to guess where my skills are on PLD I would say they're probably around what a level 85 char might cap, and I have no issues saying I am not the greatest PLD in the world. If I hadn't been going with friends I would have refused to even pull it out as I've pretty much hated the job for several years.

I agree that it most likely was an attack+asuran+no phalanx. The second fight took me down with a Victory Smite + Asuran Fists.

Not to be a jerk but can't you see why some people have an issue with this? Assuming all content is made to be accessed by all players, why create a situation wherein you're falling back on CoP original strategies? My gripe with CoP was if you didn't have the relevant jobs you couldn't go. And as always, woe betide you if you're hoping people who already have their rings are going to come back and do something that's actually challenging again. It's why I was so happy when they originally dropped the caps on CoP, content that was fun to do and I could do it on my own time.

With this cap, I can't help but feel up against the clock. Look back through this thread and you'll see all kinds of posts saying you can do it with anything but you'll find a great number more that say you're best shot is to use xyz jobs. The longer it takes for me to do this, the less people im going to be able to find to help. And frankly I don't feel like levelling xy or z to get through. If I'd wanted to do that job, I'd already be sitting at 99 laughing.

Im not saying I hate difficult content. But when its something mandatory like a level cap, why should it be so tricky for players based on job choice?

This can be applied to any major fight...CoP is just one that comes to mind first because it was the first one I started on that really gave me any trouble (for the most part, ZM was a joke with my LS at the time...I basically just tagged along on BLM to fill in specific roles they needed). Pick your most annoying boss fight....be that something in TAU, wotG, a certain BCNM, ENM....whatever the case may be, think about what you did to finally beat that @#$@#$.

The point is, everyone needs to approach this fight just like every other pain in the @$$ fight we had in the past. It's like everyone has been spoiled by the easy button over the past year and has forgotten what it is like to actually play the game with any common sense.

The problem is that people are used to abyssea which is 0 challenge.

So when they come to the first door close, they cry MOMMY I CANT OPEN THIS DOOR MWHAAAAAA

I was really sad when i did COP on this char cuz i had 0 problems.

When idid Airship on my first char costed me 1mill in med and we took 4 times t owin we didn't cry we worked and won

Did the fight on Saturday. It was easy. You guys need to stop sucking.

Dont really enjoy fights like this one at all but i will look back on ff11 in a good way , probley one of most fun boss fights in the game is the shadow lord.

I love the way all the people who walked through the fight with their party full of skilled, well geared capped leveled players look back on it as an "easy" fight..

There are a large amount of players out there who do not have the benefit of a supportive linkshell full of age-long friends.
Who don't have any of the sought after jobs leveled or who are just not comfortable in large groups who will *never* be able to break 95.

Those laughing off the fight as "easy" when people are complaining of 0/x attempts really don't help.

All the other level breaks (with the exception of a bit of farming for the early breaks) have been a test of personal strength/tactical thinking/just getting the work done to prove to maat or that moogle that you can have the next level.

Now we have a level break that *requires* the best gear in the game and a full party to get through. No amount of work can get around this. If you don't have *other* people to prove that *you* are worthy you don't get through. What is wrong with that picture?

Once the buzz has died down, there will be many left at 95. Forcing a full, skilled, capped, well geared party before a personal barrier can be broken is plain wrong.

I am all for a challenge, but when it is for personal advancement, let it be a personal challenge.

Much as many of us hated the Maat fight, it was possible with the right tactics on ANY job. This fight, for many, will be the mountain too high.

I only hope that SE include a re-think of this when they impliment the level break revision announced for sometime next year.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is what im trying to highlight. Unfortunately for me, I have a severe case of not being able to type anything I actually want to say so im glad this fine fellow has said everything he has.

Im not against challenging fights but you've got to think about the long term affect of a battle like this. Especially when its a central part of character advancement. I can safely say that three monks and a summoner make this fight stupid. But I think I lucked out on people who needed the cap. If you review the census findings im pretty sure the job balance isnt 3:1 in favour of monks?

The THF in ym PT was full aurore gear

PLD had a Koenig Shield and full perl.

I was the only one with the MNK that geared swap.

The reason we won was because the leader (the monk) annoyed people about what to do and made sure they understand. You guys that sucks are like kids we need to take you by the hand or else you won't do anything.

I will say I did go 1/10 until I won...all where shout parties.....
Despite the many loses.....alot of us had fun through out it....it was fun....you couldn't do a "leroy jenkins" and expect to win...I will say it is MUCH different then say abyssea since you are no longer in God Mode. I enjoyed it....

Of course I guess if you was someone who came to game around abyssea you could get aggrovated at this.....
For people who was playing game pre-abyssea...I'd figure would enjoy the fight since it's something that can't be done by just by having the job leveled or having atmas to make up for it....

And I am sure that when you stood there looking for a party in your Full emp +2 with relic weapon and 20/20 jobs to choose from with years of party experience you found no problem finding another group of like people to walk through the fight with like it was swatting an annoying fly on your route to god-hood.

Some of us don't have any of that.

I don't count it as crying, but merely asking for a chance for the non-elite non-deities.

Try standing there in two months time wearing perle and see how far you get.

Right, well, apparently trying to even voice a concern brings out the best in everyone. In actual, unprecedented internet history im not going to try and sway you with lengthy posts that you'll just ignore. I've said my bit, hopefully someone will read it and realise that actually, you know, Im not entirely wrong when I say it could cause problems when you create a system that relies on the good will of others. Good will that our player base so routinely shows by yelling you suck at people who are struggling to do something.

I was lv 91 when I beat the bloody thing.

Does anyone know of any groups that are actually willing to take jobs along to the fight other than BST MNK or SMN or a handful of mages? Because this is actually starting to take the piss.

Actually, this happened to the MNK in my first attempt. He went down almost instantly (after rushing in before we were all prepared) to a WS plus a melee hit or two. Whats-hisname can pretty much weaponskill at will. He has regain and will most likely have TP when you engage.
