Big corporations tend to have a hard time updating software.. .We're still on Windows XP here at my job and only barely "considering" the switch to Windows 7. We waited almost two years to upgrade to the second-to-latest version of software that we use everyday as well..
Updating stuff like that in big corps is a slow, painstaking process that has to be combed through by IT for a while. I don't agree with the delay, as a tech savvy person, but frankly I don't care to argue with it. We have a lot of older people here who can barely turn their computers on in the morning -- can't expect them to deal with the inevitable troubles of major updates.
Did they ever fix Cid's teeth?
Greetings everyone!
If you’ve already been completed the quests that were implemented that tie-in to the new expansion, surely you're thirsty for more material relating to the lore of Seekers of Adoulin, right?
In case you missed the announcement on topics, we've just posted some juicy lore-filled literature! The theme for this installment is about the background story of Adoulin's flag.
We spoke to lead for this and received a nice comment I'd like to share with you:
Stayed tuned for more issues where you can delve deeper into the lore of Adoulin!Quote:
Thanks so much for your interest in the Adoulin literature.
The theme for this issue revolves around explaining why Adoulin's flag has an insignia with twelve swords upon it. Please take a moment and read through it.
The characters that are introduced in the literature are people that you can actually meet in South San d’Oria. Of course they will not tell you about Adoulin in-game, but if you feel the need after reading, drop by to say hi to them.
I for one welcome more lore that focuses on cookies.
I loved the inclusion of Balasiel, personally. Takes me back to when I did the series of quests leading up to "A Knight's Test". Good times.
<--still waits for Rune Fencer details.
Yes, yes, yes, SE, but what we really want to know is what is the OS for the developer machines?
actually there is a very good reason why they would not update the os for the devolopment systems used for FFXI. They have stable machines that are used only for that purpose. no need to invest in making new computers. The developer machines for their other projects are probably using newer OS.
Can you please just release information on how Rune Fencer will operate... It would be nice to get information on a new class that could potentially be awesome or be terrible, unlike Geomancer which will be pretty much just something to do in this game rather then an "ERMAHGERD DAT JOB IS AWESOME!"
So when are the download pages for EU players going to appear? NA/JP's been up for a while now. Seems a bit off to not have this sorted out by now though, Well I guess there's plenty of time kind of.
The client of FFXI is universal for US/EU/JP, only the registry makes the difference in which section of the game is used.
you can turn your NA release in a JP/DE/FR/ release by changing some registry entry, so installing a expansion pack from another region should not be a problem, as they are seperate installers.
Installing is one thing, Having a correct Region Code is another. Codes are still region locked regardless so unless they change that and make it universal EU Players are still in the dark. But only time will tell, Even if it's so slowly running out.
Top o’ the morning to everyone!
In case you haven’t checked topics today, we just posted the next installment of our series to deepen everyone’s knowledge of the new mysterious city of Adoulin.
The third volume, “The Sacred City of Adoulin,” sheds insight on the history and establishment of the city, as well as some interesting demographics.
Definitely take a moment to read it over when you have some time!
Just a little over a month to go until everyone can embark on a brand new adventure! :)
Previous volumes:
Volume 1: The Unfurling Tales of the Mystical Waypoints
Volume 2: A Farewell to Cookies and a Greeting to Arms
Awesome! I love all this lore for Ubulka and Adoulin!!
as its starting to get tiring on people that are asking this, can you please (i'll even give you a cookie) shed some light as to what are happening with the pre orders for the EU side. Because it feels like were being kept in the dark about it. Were fearing we'll not see it on release date as we can't see it in any EU store, or on the EU SE site...
Somehow, get the feeling that Adoulin is going to have a lot of counters that my character can't see over and stairs-steps that come up to my character's chest. If I didn't know what horrible things the little guy had done, being the one who made him do them, I'd feel bad about his struggles in this new and step-ladder-less land.Quote:

I do like how the city actually looks rather city-like, moreso than most of the others in the game. It is a bit on the gray side, but looks good overall.
Oh and any city lacking in tarutaru is okay in my book
You know, as an adventurer Adoulin seeking expansion promises to be the best thing ever, but I can't help but be wary when the Ministries of History and Education, Health, and Security are opposed to the idea.
It's really not in any of those iministries' interests for that to happen- security would be opposed to the influx of foreigners, health would be opposed to the diseases and health risks those foreigners bring with them, and history/education would fear cultural damage.
Yep, same reasons I was thinking of, makes sense why they would be opposed to the idea of a bunch of new people coming to the country.
Its too bad they used the same tilesets they used for other areas instead of making something new and refreshing like they did with toau. Especially in the city itself. But since the rest of the maps we have seen also look like a rehash of previously used areas its not too much of a surprise that the city has elements of sandy and jeuno and such. Even the statue of Altana is just cut and pasted out of the hall of the gods.
I guess we can just be thankful they didnt just plop a new color and new music on a map and call it a new zone. Still feels lazy for a game with such a cult following. Like its just a bone SE is throwing us. Then to add insult to injury they seem to try to explain it away with lore.
Oh well, beggers cant be choosers I guess.
Dont... just... dont... SE can come up with their own ideas on how to make the missions suck...
The Development Bros could also give the different guilds of Adoulin quests that tie into the Adoulin missions, and make it impossible for anyone not on or past that particular quest for that particular guild to participate. It would be like quests of the three nations in Wings of the Goddess, taken up to eleven.
Also, it would be horrible. Super-duper horrible.
na se is just going to give all taru a free job ablity to fly like the AA taru ^^/
Members-only sounds ominous; Blizzard recently added 'exclusive' content only available initially to the ungodly rich, gold sellers had a field day, hope SE aren't planning something similar.Quote:
The Silver Spoon (members-only auction house)
That caught my eye as well... I hope membership is as simple as missions, like becoming a merc in Aht or something like CoP had with Tav.
Although it's elsewhere on General, I'm leaving this link here:
http://massively.joystiq.com/2013/02...ntasy-xis-new/
As it's got more info on Rune Fencer (RUN) and Geomancer (GEO) than anything else to-date.
S-E telling the gaming press more than they say on their own forums?
Embarrassingly, that's pretty standard fare for S-E.
No! I promise it’s not like that! (And I am speaking as a Tarutaru myself!)
Lore-wise there really aren’t that many Tarutarus who adventure out beyond the green and safe Sarutabarta region (though I suppose a Tarutaru at level 1 is not very safe from gigantic crawlers and Yagudos who roam these areas). Of course there are some super-Tarus who possess higher than normal abilities though! I’m sure you can name a handful. However, due to this we’ve placed the Tarutarus who reside in Adoulin into the 5% “Other” group. I assure you though that walking around the town you will still encounter a good deal of Tarutaru NPCs, and even meet some distinguished ones while adventuring.
Also, in case you were curious…
The twelve orders of Adoulin are not based on a hereditary succession system. Before the development of the city-state, each house was a small country, but appointed the person most apt for each job to represent the whole. Due to this, currently only the house name remains for each order. For example, Gratzigg is the Peacekeepers’ Coalition Maester because he is a man with a lot of influence. However, the house of Adoulin, which was once royal has a blood successor and Ygnas is the legitimate successor of August.
Once all of you adventurers head over to Adoulin you’ll get even deeper into the history. I hope you are looking forward to it! :)
