    speed of light is 186,000 miles/second so a minimum lag is 0.03seconds.of course this assumes a straight line between you and the server in actuality the message has to pass through a lot of different servers and won't likely take a direct route. and your lag is also the cumulative lag of all machines between you and the destination. a lag of 0.5-1.0seconds is pretty normal going from us to japan.
    as for other games doing it better,that comes down to how much is done on the server and how much is done on the client.the more that's client side the less it needs to dial home and the less you notice lag...but also the less you need the server and the easier it is to make a free server.

    well Canada shares the same time zones as the united states. hyperion is not in Canada and still perfect to me. new York city is UTC -5 eastern u.s.a/Canada. anyone can know where their server time zone is if you just switch the time ingame.

    Every NA/EU listed server is in montreal canada. You must have your time settings set up wrong or something. They didnt secretly put some of the NA servers in Europe and not tell anybody.

    In my experience, it's not a lag issue. It's that the AOE indicator is a SEPARATE indicator from the actual casting bar. They are related, but not the same thing.

    The AOE indicator shows you Where the attack will be.

    The casting bar of the enemy shows you When the attack will hit.

    The casting bar is the more important of the 2 indicators since that's what determines whether or not you get hit. As soon as you see the AOE indicator, move. Often, the casting bar finishes well before the indicator disappears.

    servers are running about 500ms latency right now (no im not talking about network ping) they must be using python lol
    now add in the position update intervalwich is somewhere inbetween 300-500ms
    so terrible servers combined with a dumb as rocks client combine to needing a 500 to 1000ms buffer time outside the dangerzone in order to not get hit
    course this could all be fixed by anyone with half a brain, but i doubt it will

    It square enix totally not taking European players serious. latency from EU to US is way to big for games you need to evade stuff.
    I'm sorry, but i don't agree to this statement. I live in the EU, have had 0 lag/latency issues and i can dodge AoE/Cone attacks just fine while playing on Sargatanas (NA/EU Datacenter). I'm not saying that people do not have lag/latency issues, but saying that it's impossible to evade stuff for European players is simply not the case for everyone.

    Lag/latency issues always depend on where you are, what type of connection you have (ISDN/Cable/FiberOptic) and to which server you are connecting to. If you are experiencing a lot of lag on a world connected to the NA/EU Datacenter, make a new character on a world connected to the JP Datacenter and see if there are any differences in performance.

    Then, collect all your findings and post it in the Technical support section of the forum so that SE can investigate the issue at hand. Right now we don't have an official EU Datacenter, but based on the info of the user base they CAN add one down the road. Again, they will need all the info the players can give them.

    How ever with the server latency , your own ping and the fact that the server has to check where you are it just ignores the last part of your movement.

    They could have fixed this in beta but the refused, and yes they won't change it now either.
    Game is fun but this is annoying and I'm sure people will get fed up with it once encounters get harder than this.

    The server side checks and horrible servers in general just kill the fun.

    It feels like I'm not playing the game but learning how to fight latency.
    Example:

    - When the AOE appears and I finish a heal that has 0.5 left, move out before the red circle vanishes I get hit.

    How ever if I move 0.5 second before the heal is done my character glides and finishes the heal + I won't get hit.


    This is beyond stupid, if I cancel a spell it should stop instantly.
    Not go off when I do it about 0.5 seconds before it goes off.

    Yes I can dodge stuff like this but it isn't fun.


    Anyway SE fix your freaking servers.

    I've no idea who ever thought this was a good idea.
    Yoshi P got inspired by WOW, this is not how wow plays at all it's smooth and responsive that's why people like it.
    There is no such thing as this type of /'lag' in wow, even if you play with 300 ms it is better.

    I'm not sure if they are being cheap or just incompetent.

    This is something I find somewhat stupid. SE should try to sync them better, as good deal of animation is so "long" that the the part where you would actually get hit by it appears a second after the red area vanishes. It just feels so wrong in some situations, and can understandably cause frustration to players if they don't know when the damage is actually calculated.

    Anyways, checking your position more than once every 0.3 seconds would help a good deal with avoiding all the red or non-red areas of doom. Sometimes you just get unlucky in a way that the last check happened 2 pixels too early and you still get hit even though you've been out of the area for 0.3 seconds already.

    I've noticed, while tanking, that if I use any ability that has a animation and move out of the way i'll still get hit.
    And i'm paying close attention to the cast bar so I know I should be fine, but nope still get hit.
