I must say I loathe having to spam instant attacks to get them to work. They don't even que if they're blocked by animation, it just looks like they're not working. Very poorly handled imo.

I am convinced that this is caused by the same thing which is causing the latency/lag issues on AoE's and character posistion updates to the server. (its all intertwined)
I've noticed that sometimes my skills will go off without much hitch but other times I have to spam the buttons for them to activate and even then when the skill button animation goes off the effect doesn't take effect and the button is still lit up.
They need to sort these issues out before everyone leaves.
I don't think this is animation lock, but rather the same polling intervals which cause everyone to fail AoE evasion and everything else. It's not consistent at all, and sometimes you can use one ability right after the other.
Basically the server hasn't checked to see that you're not currently using the last ability yet.
This is really annoying and frustrating, as if my RSI wasn't bad enough I have to spam a key to cast a "instant" skill, please fix.
Just another thing that makes tanking not as fun and clunky. Yoshida, you recognize the tank shortage, perhaps more people would tank if everything was smoother and kind of.. flowed together better. As it is now, it's annoying to pop my off the GCD defensive abilities, among other things.
I'll also bump because for some insane reason, sometimes when I use my aetherflow immediately after my spells, it just fizzles and I lose all the mana and aetherflow stacks it grants for that entire minute of nothing and I just sit there going 'welp.'
The best part? The animation and particles go through too.
Also this: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...ight-mechanics and this: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...es-the-casting.
You can say I suck at ARR, I should anticipate the ram's voice and not use anything until then etc. I don't really care, these mechanics are frustrating, it just does not feel right and when your group depends on you, you try to do what you can, but fail due to these stupid mechanics, it really just makes you want to log off, uninstall and forget it for good.
If they are not going to fix instant off gcd abilities they should at least design encounters around it, so I wonder will this get thrown into the "working as intended" pile.

Something does not feel right with your game: http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/86836-The-Navel-(Hard)-plume-animation-damage-impact-out-of-sync http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/71728-The-problem-with-Instant-OFF-GCD-abilities-makes-combat-feel-less-rewarding http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/91388-Silence-not-taking-effect-even-though-it-is-used-before-enemy-finishes-the-casting http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/threads/86887-Unable-to-activate-skills-even-though-UI-displays-them-as-available-for-use
I really hope this gets some feedback and maybe a change, after I hit 50, ive taken a break from combat and been working on my crafts because this is making combat so frustrating and awkward
100% agree, need to be fixed ASAP, espacially for us EU players which got terrible connections to montreal eu server...
Any Paladin that uses Hallowed Ground knows how annoying this can be if you're trying to use it in a very clutch situation. Pop Hallowed Ground at 20% HP. Get hit 3 times for the remainder of your HP. Effect finally takes place...when you're face first in the ground.
