So, we know there's going to be a chapel and in-game weddings at some point in 2.0. This of course has me curious about Eorzean marriage traditions, especially since some of the races might not traditionally marry at all (I'm lookin' at YOU, Miqo'te). So far we know interracial marriages can and do happen - there's an Elezen/Miqo'te couple at the Ul'dah airship docks and the WVR quests seem to suggest that an Elezen woman married a Lalafell man and adopted children of yet other races. I'm just sort of interested in how this all works from a lore perspective, particularly with respect to different customs between the races if there are any.
Most specifically, I'm curious if it's common for the woman to take the man's last name, in which case will name changes be offered as part of the wedding service? Or is this not something done in Eorzea? I'm mostly wondering because with the chance of a name change being allowed at 2.0 launch, is this an opportunity those planning on having their characters wed ought to jump on so as not to miss the opportunity to have appropriately matching last names? Will we get the chance to name-change appropriately at the ceremony? Or is this all a moot point because women keep maiden names upon marriage?
Kind of specific question I know, but any and all light shed on matrimony in Eorzea would be pretty awesome info to have.
