... Just please don't call Lancer Dragoon and give it ugly purple armor!

I would like to see it done like this very much. Unlocking classes was something I really enjoyed from XI, and would love to see here, along with the usually great cut scenes you got with the quests. Implementing FFT style requirements in my opinion would be the ideal requirement to unlock them.
I am much more interested in how the game plays rather than the names. Naming is pointless if they don't do anything to change how terrible the jobs are.
The absolute best thing about FFXI was the job system. No other MMO has ever come close. I would be perfectly happy if they scrapped their armoury system and just simply put in the FFXI job system. I mean, its OK to borrow a few successful things from previous games, just don't go all out and make a clone!
I think the job system in FFXI is what caused me to be addicted to it for so many years, I never had to roll an alt.
I am in support of the FF:T style of jobs....
And in reading through the list- everyone left out DoH and DoL jobs!!!
If they're telling us that those are "real" jobs... then perhaps in order to unlock a Geomancer you're need 30 Mar, 20 Bot etc..
In order to unlock a... Chemist? (I doubt this will ever happen, but just as an example) you need 30 CON, 20 Alc, or something like that... you guys get the idea!!
And as for "have to rank up something you don't like to get to the fun part".. I think that is a small price to pay... hitting R30 is simple.... or even R40.... It allows for goals to be established and accomplished- as well as notable progress and achievement.
I do share similar concerns that the classes that we have now will disappear... and I'm thinking that maybe the advantages would be their adaptability to the situation? Like they are able to use more cross-class abilities? Or are more proficient that using them? I don't really know...
You know, that's a pretty interesting idea, and I don't think it should be that much of a problem considering that if you want to be a "chemist", you'd probably be the type of person to level up alchemy anyway. Plus, it might allow for interesting uses of your own wares, like compounds that will "eat at enemies" and act as a poison, or ATK down or whatever.I am in support of the FF:T style of jobs....

Personally im for the FFT type class system being implemented in FFXIV. The idea of leveling various classes and doing a quest to unlock an advance class (classic FF class) would be an interesting and amazing way of getting folks to try leveling the classes and it creates a goal for reaching those ranks you need to unlock the quest. So im all for that idea. Hopefully square enix is as well lol.
Please don't change the names of the current classes. There is absolutely no need to do so. As for implementing FFT specialization classes and what not thats okay, but keep the names the way they are.
I have to thank Square-Enix for the amazing job they have done recreating Final Fantasy XIV from Scratch. Especially the inclusion of Missing Genders which we petitioned for in good faith. This was proof to us players that the Developers are truly Sympathetic to our requests and that being honest and vocal can pay off with the amazing characters we have who are Female Roegadyn, Male Miqote, and Female Highlanders. Thank You SE, Thank You Community Team, Thank You Yoshi-P.
Instead of class name changes why not just add a Title system? When you do the class quest you gain a traditional Final Fantasy Title like Paladin or Black Mage. Then you can set your Title to display over your name. When players see you they'll see:
Paladin
John Smith
White Mage
Jane Doe
