Out of the two options presented by Naoki Yoshida, Advanced Jobs would be the most welcomed by the community and least difficult to balance with existing classes, and other advanced classes. Using the mechanics of Final Fantasy Tactics, with unlocking quests from Final Fantasy XI would be the most efficient way to implement traditional job names.

And we don't have to call them "advanced" classes. That implies that they are superior to the starter classes. I prefer the D&D approach, and calling them "prestige" classes. That neutralizes the perception that they are superior by default.

I'm totally in favor of the Advanced class system with unlock quests and stuff.

And for basic classes such conjurer/thau/mara etc.. give some sort of "capstone" (just like DDO).

A skill, or set of skills, or trait, unlockable only at level 50 and usable only when in that specific class. Something "powerful" and meaningful that can lead a player to say : "ok this time i'm gonna be conjurer because i REALLY need that awesome spell/trait".

I am in support of the FFT job advancement system as well, and think that it would be the proper way to go about solving this issue.
