Could a few people explain to me...

    What is a data-center and a server...

How do data-centers differ from servers...

Are the players currently on server get the chance to change to a closer datacenter/server...

The 10 currant servers now based in Japan, Will SE consider in spreading them out to other regions and if so, would player get the option to choose the best option for them.

Thank you for your time, I asked around and just got mix messages. Maybe this is a new brainer for some of you guys.

Cant answer the first part for you, but the answer as to whether we will get a one time move to a data center more local to us come launch is stil ambiguosly up in the air. Contrary to what I am sure will be many people claiming they know exactly what will happen come launch, I am not even sure the Devs know yet themselves.

A data center is a building where servers (Computers that communicate with all the players and maintain the game world) are kept and maintained.

You can't keep the same server but change your data center- the data center is the place where the server is located physically in the world. Each server is physically located in one data center.

The current servers are all housed in data centers located in Japan. There will be new servers set up in data centers for each region- Based on current information, some servers will be available for any of us to switch to, while others will be reserved for players that want a fresh start, only allowing new characters to be created for a period of time.

    Thank you in advance.

I data center is a place where servers are stored. Servers are the actual computers which you connect to in order to play the game.

We haven't made any specific announcements regarding the servers, locations, or specifics about world transfers (besides Rukkirii's post here) at this time. As soon as we have more information to share, we will!

For more information about regional servers, please see the details regarding what was announced in the previous Producer Letter Live.
