What XIV can take from XI to make it better

Abyssea was pretty packed for the most part, at least for the first year or so. Now-a-days it's dead, but so is all the content in the game.

Even though you got items relatively quickly with Abyssea, there was still lots to get. They added a ton of situational gear for people who wanted to go above and beyond, but also added a base line set of gear that wasn't too hard to obtain, so even casual players could be useful.

Look at a BLM in full AF3, and then compare them to a BLM with all the situational gear available. The differences are quite astounding. That's the same for pretty much every job too.

XIV cant stand on its own and never will with Yoshi in charge. Yoshi is too afraid to make XIV stand out and thats its biggest down fall along with the catering to the casuals. Yoshi is just making a standard MMO and unless he changes directions it wont become anything more.

There is nothing wrong with what Yoshi is doing, and that is taking what is known and good and fun in the MMO universe and improving upon it. Reinventing the wheel isn't always good. Don't worry Mr. Super Hardcore NA guy.. the JP's won't allow it to be too easy for you.. and you know if there is a chance that it is.. you can always go play EVE Online and dedicate your fucking life to a video game.
