Solo and/or Duo: Things to do before ARR

Hello everyone. I have a question that may seem like a waste to some of you, but I have to ask anyway.

First the set up:
My brother and I have been playing this game off and on since its original release and lately we have just finished the main storyline and several of the grand company quests. We don't know anyone else who plays (we are on Excalibur) the game and we have soloed or duoed everything except the first Ifrit quest. I play a PLD and he plays a MNK. We both just reached lvl 50.

Now for the question:
What are some suggestions for solo or duoable quests, events, nms, etc? (anything that will get us gear or items that we may need/want in ARR). My brother really wants to just duo as much stuff because our experiences with parties on Excalibur (the few times he or I have tried) have been kinda lacking in enjoyment. We want to get as much done as we can before ARR. It's not that we dislike parties, the issue is more to do with the lack of time we have to play (usually just on the weekends) and the hassle it is to try and find parties for the quests we actually want to try at the time. Any suggestions on what we could do for the next month or so would be appreciated. We're really waiting til ARR before we begin looking for parties but we definitely will do so when it finally arrives.

I'm not exactly caught up on everything, but personally, I'd at least wanna stock up on GC seals... Even if there's nothing you need now, couldn't hurt in the event some new rank or gear (or possibly PvP/Player Housing related stuff) comes out once ARR goes live.

Stocking up on those can involve NMs, or repeating stuff like The Thousand Maws of Toto-Rak (low level, easy to do quickly, only requires 2 people minimum, etc)

If your looking for cool quests with decent gil rewards, try the class guilds in each of the towns. As long as you are at least level 36 in that class you can complete the class quests. Make sure you are the class that you want to start at its respective guild, or the quest wont show. Cool movies and stories.

Ya, just spam atomos. They spawn at 18:00 and 00:00 in game time. Go to 1st camp glory and then 2nd camp bluefog. Rinse and repeat. After atomos is dead, he will drop a rock. You need to select it and examine it. You will then get crystals. (random). You then need to trade it at the guy near the wards in uldah. For 4 crystals you get 1k GC. Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the info, friends. It's much appreciated. I am not sure how you actually do the Atmos event. I have only once come into contact with it while it was spawning void creatures and those killed both my brother and me with one hit. I take that to mean that the event is not solo or duoable. I could be wrong though.

Is there any gear that I should try to get from creatures that anyone would recommend? I know some of that stuff you can buy but that is the easy way and I would feel more accomplished if I actually work for the stuff. I have done all the GLD guild quests and am very disappointed that there are so few. Does anyone know where you get the Coliseum gear from? And I keep hearing about this Moogle battle (which I know is party-based) but I have no idea where to even start that quest or where the moogle is. One last question for now: Do you think that it should be possible for my brother and I (remember we are both lvl 50) to do the O'Ghamaro quest for the Maelstrom, Kobold and the Beautiful, as a duo. Usually,his monk acts like a damage-dealing tank (since he keeps telling me that monk needs aggro for better damage dealing) and I act as damage-dealing healer, using Cure and Stoneskin on both of us and attacking when I can. We tried this at level 47 and couldn't get past the first door. Got to it but not through it.

Anyway, thanks again for any help and if you have a character on Excalibur I would love to perhaps play with you some day.

Atomos: Go to Bluefog, at 18:00 and 00:00. Wait til Atomos dies and talk to the Voidstone a few times. You have a chance to get anima, and Overaspected Crystals/clusters which can be traded in for seals at your GC's city.

Moogle: I believe after you've beat "It Kills With Fire(your gc)" you can talk to Lousioux in Gridania and he gives you the quest. You need a full party for it. However, you can do everything but the fight itself duo. It requires you to walk around the Turning Leaf aetheryte to kill certain NMs. They might be tough, but they are totally duo-able assuming you have a White Mage.

Coliseum gear: You have to do various faction quests to get it, both require full parties.

It is totally possible to duo/solo Kobold and the Beautiful. All it requires you to do is walk into the mines, examine three nodes, and leave. The mobs in that area are level 49, so they might have been somewhat challenging if they started ganging up on you.

If you want to do Atomos since you are on Excalibur then show up at Camp Bluefrog first at 18:00 and 0:00 then go to Glory right after. You will be fine solo as there will be a hundred people there killing him. This is your best bet in getting gear before 2.0. Open world Nm's dont drop anything good worth wearing that you can duo.

One thing I enjoyed doing solo was getting a full set of Plundered gear plus all the NM drops from Shposhae.

The gear's usefullness is pretty fleeting but if you only have one or two jobs leveled you'll get multiple uses out of it and you'll look cool doing so.
