    Game Crash

I have two friends who are unable to play due to their games crashing, one of them get's to the login screen and loads in but crashes on the loading screen. The other can get into the game, but when they teleport anywhere, like a house or other place they crash. We've tried to fix it, but it continues to come back. Is there maybe a corrupt file, or is it a bug?

    I'd say go here: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...hnical-Support

but it'll probably just get put back here in 6 months when a support person gets around to closing the ticket.

Figured i'd just put it here because of that ring around the rosie. Just to see other people's fixes or whatever so we can try it.

Over the years, the only times the game had consistently crashed is when my GPU is overclocked (even factory overclocked out of the box). I've encountered it with multiple GPUs. Underclocking it slightly always fixes it. This may or may not be the issue, but could be worth a shot.

If it's a corrupted file, they could try the repair option from the launcher.

That is the only thing we haven't considered, but due to trying everything else thus far I will inform them.

If you use an SSD, it has a limited number of read/write cycles. So when the game has read it enough times, it can become corrupt and this tends to result in crashes in different places (depending on the corrupt file(s)). The only solution to this is redownloading the game, because SE doesn't have a proper checksum repair system.

If that doesn't fix it, it could be corrupt settings files (hotbars/macros/HUD Layout/character config). This is probably worth checking first. You can just go to Documents\My Games, open your character's CHAR file and drag all the files out (or back them up and delete). It'll reset all hotbars/macros/HUD/settings to defaults, but it might stop the crash. If it does, you can restore one file at a time (rebooting game each time) until it crashes to figure out which file. If it doesn't stop the crash you can just restore all the files.

I've only ever seen this happen with nvidia GPUs, but yes if xiv is giving you directX errors it is most likely your gpu not playing nice in some way with the game.

Also if it seems to happen with loading into a new area then make sure their drives are in ok health with something like HWInfo64 and make sure to validate their game files just in case.

They both have nvidia gpu's, but it doesn't give them an error message or anything.

How do we disable overclocking, if there isn't an option in the control panel for the graphics card?

Typically you can disable overclocking from the BIOS when you start the computer. Or you can download a 3rd party tool like MSI Afterburner to manually adjust the clock speed to a lower value. I just looked up the base clock for the Nvidia Founder's Edition version of my card and made sure to lower it to around the same value (around -200 to adjust my card, if I remember correctly).
