One thing to remember is that this is the internet and a forum devoted to a ten year old game. As such there's going to be agitators who are incredibly socially awkward, shockingly so. It comes with the territory, unfortunately.

I've encountered a number of posters who treat different personal tastes as something worthy of scorn to the point of seeing an offer to agree to disagree as a personal attack. You're never going to get through to such individuals and they're never going to compromise on anything or avoid demanding that you like or dislike what they wish you to.

So rather than request that those individuals do not engage, you need to be pre-emptive - there's nothing they loathe more than to simply be ignored. This is especially true of the posters who forget that this forum is primarily a place to leave feedback and discuss the game, including elements that they may themselves not be interested in or enjoy.
This requires a more collective approach in order to be effective, of which this likely not happen because the internet will always be open for everyone, good and ill-intentioned, the reasonable and discord-seeking. And those who just want to see it all, ready with a pack of popcorn, subtly adding fuel to the fire as well. Drama's one of the oldest form of entertainment, after all.

Personally, I'd rather see a more heavy-handed approach from the forum owners myself, with a stricter moderation and punishments that also tranfers to your gaming account.
Because if you let those people free reign and 'just' ignore them, you empower those to keep on going as they think they won with their 'argument'.

And sometimes, just like in the real world, harsh consequences need to be in place. Even when it means drop-kicking them (figuratively and literally) in order to keep them in line that their nonsense is not welcome nor tolerated here.
