Character cannot move using W, A, S, D

Hello all,

I decided to get my mother playing FFXIV earlier today. This would be her first MMO, so I expected there would be a few hiccups along the way. After spending several hours explaining how to move to her over discord (She and I live on opposite sides of the U.S), I could not understand what was causing her so much difficulty. I wound up assuming perhaps her PC just could not handle the game.

I decided to buy her a brand new gaming PC and she picked it up this afternoon. My mother quickly reinstalled the game on her shiny new computer, only to continue being unable to move. Ready to lose my mind, I decided to use a program to remote connect to her PC and identify if she was simply insane, or if something else was going on.

After hours now, I have determined that something is very wrong. Her W A S D keys simply do not work. I have bound movement to a multitude of other keys - all of which do work. I have re-installed the game, inspected every inch of her brand new PC and can say 100% that something has gone wrong with the game.

I am at my wits end and am hoping that someone might help me figure out what is going on. Based on some of the information I have found online, I have already tried the following:

-Reinstalled
-Deleted config files
-Ran as ADMIN
-Created a new character
-Remotely logged into my account (which was working just fine on my PC) and found the same issue occurred even after downloading my UI via the character screen.
-Tried a multitude of different keybindings, which all worked to move her characters
-BOUGHT HER A BRAND NEW PC!!!!!!!!!
-Disable direct chat
-Ensured that all her settings are for PC movement, not console.
-several others, but I'm hoping you get the idea..


Also, one last note: The game registers the W A S D keys as "movement". The best way I can describe what happens is that her characters wiggle? It took her an hour to get from Mother Miounne to the Aether Plaza in Gridania. I simply assumed she was adjusting to the movement (this was on her old PC by the way).

What about changing the keyboard? does that change anything? have you updated the drivers? is it possible that Sticky Keys is turned on?

First, thank you for the quick response! I am grateful for any assistance at this point.

However, yes - I have tried all of what you listed. Her original PC was a bit out of date, and not designed for much more than the Sims. When we installed the game on that PC, I was struggling to understand why she was struggling to move SO MUCH. I was standing next to her in game and I assumed the issue was lag, or frame rate related. That's why I decided to buy her a new gaming PC. When we installed the game on her new laptop, the movement issue has persisted. I carried none of her settings over, ensured all her drivers were up to date. Removed a bunch of bloatware - typical Bestbuy PC stuff. As far as I can tell, this issue is related to the game. I am still trying a few more options, but please, if you have any other ideas, hit me!

I'm just trying to dig up old issues to see if they may be related. I will keep looking

I found another post on Steam saying that closing Team Viewer solved the issue. What program are you using to remote into your moms PC?

Okay, so that gave me an idea and now I'm more confused. Perhaps it will mean something to someone else? I decided to try using the on-screen keyboard and that allowed the W key to be used for movement. So, I guess that's something. Lol

Alright. So now I've gotten it to work if I first hold CTRL and then press W. I cannot use W if I push CTRL second. Any ideas? lol

Wild. And mom knows to HOLD the keys for movement? I am not trying to condescend, just general troubleshooting. I know going from Sims to FFXIV is a bit of a learning curve if she hasn't done other MMOs before. I want mom to play the game!

Just read your edit. hmmmmmmMMMMm this is weird. maybe try resetting the key bindings to default once more. I wonder why that is happening.

No worries at all. Honestly, during the first hour I was thinking "Maybe she isn't cut out for an MMO if she can't even figure out how to move". Lol So no worries at all. I have actually been remotely controlling her PC for the past few hours, so I can say for sure that the W key will not work even when held. Like I said, the best way to describe it is that the characters are taking tiny little baby steps.. lol That's why I initially thought she was lagging or something.
