Big this. Math-wise everything is pretty tight, and that translates to tight balance. This is a good thing since we avoid the WAR/DRG/BRD/NIN/SCH/AST hard-locked meta that started to take form around mid-SB and held until ShB. But they need to not let the spreadsheets govern every decision. Yoshi P. mentioned how this was something he was concerned about back during a discussion last summer, so I find it odd that the SAM change (not to mention many of the other changes that have occurred) either went through or are still here. There's either some kind of disconnect between Yoshi P. and his team or else Yoshi has a more spreadsheet-y definition of fun than we were led to believe.
