On this topic, out of interest, are the purchasing options the only issues for playing this game in SEA?

I am curious because I'm planning on potentially moving to work in Vietnam within the next couple of years (depending on my own circumstances) and would like to bring my MMO addiction with me.

As for the solution to the problem, yeah I think more purchasing options for all regions would be ideal. It does seem daft to have the trial but not full game.

I know a VPN was suggested, I don't know if it's also worth maybe contacting Steam support to see if it violates any ToS, particularly given you own the game on Steam and have simply moved country and now can no longer buy game time or expansions for a game you purchased. Just so you are avoiding a situation

I'd probably also suggest seeing if FFXIV's support can help, but I don't know if they would provide support for you in your country.

Many people including my friends also faced account registrations issues,
where they have to use EU or NA countries VPN before registering.

Even the series creator, Hironobu Sakaguchi also faced problems when creating account.

There is also an issue where the game launcher (for non-steam case) won't update (it will show an error) or update but with a very slow speed,
so you have to play around with your VPN.

That's all I can think about for now.

Thanks for the insight. So I'd just have to play with VPN to get stuff working properly.

And damn, I didn't know Sakaguchi had issues.

But I hope they do accommodate SEA more, especially with the new Australian servers coming, I think it'd make sense to be more inclusive with their regions. Though I am not sure how things work legally for each country because I know they have legal support for the territories they currently officially support.

If you plan to live in Vietnam or any other country only temporarily and you like your existing character, I would suggest simply keeping your existing account. You can log in from anywhere to any data center (except China, and perhaps Korea?). But you will need to keep up a payment method in your home country where the account is located.

But if you plan to move permanently, you will either have to keep up your original country payment option indefinitely... or consider starting anew with a brand new account and new character.

I can't play or upgrade my old account due to the region lock because it's NA and I moved to the EU.

Blizzard still let's me buy and play their products cross region so I can't see why SE wouldn't.

It's also bollocks that you can't get it in your country on Steam at all. That's just wrong. Especially if the trial is available.

Still no words from Square Enix about this.

I just hope they will give us SEAn a little bit more attention anytime soon.

Hope they will talk about or at least mention something about this case and maybe the SEA region in general on today's Letter.

The delay might also be a good time to work on this.

My sub is ending soon so unfortunately this might be my last post until FFXIV is made available on SEA Steam Store. this is not a protest move, i simply can't buy any expansion and subscription from my country
I really hope they would realize that we SEA players also exist and we spend/would spend money on this game

Making the Free Trial available on Steam but not the Full Game is weird.
Since the Trial is already available, why not the Full Game also?
I cannot think of any excuse that makes sense.

I know this might not be much for other people who plays on other platform and can easily buy it from outside Steam, but I have no choice since I am locked to Steam.
If allowed, I could buy the Full Game again from Square Enix Store as long as they let me use the same account, but unfortunately that's not the reality we live in.

I ask you: please, just make the Full Game (and all the DLC) available on SEA Steam Store.
If you don't want to sell it at local pricing, then it's fine, just make it available first.
