Scholar has come down with Bard Syndrome

Just like how Bard got the shaft to make room for Dancer, Scholar got the same to make room for Sage.

    Did it?
What SCH elements were taken and moved to Sage?
I think it's more accurate to say AST has "BRD syndrome."

DPS abilities and micromanagement of Embrace, but they were removed when Sage wasn't a thing yet, so it's not exactly a BRD/DNC situation.

Exactly. Which, is why I'll never touch the SCH again. I'm done. If they can see that a percentage (hopefully large) of players have moved on to other jobs then they'll realize something has to be done.
What we say here has no bearing on anything --they utterly, and wholly ignore us.

But I'm over it. WHM is pretty fun--I like using Holy quite a bit and the healing feels potent enough. And, the Sage looks sick.

So RIP SCH. I hope no one plays you again so we can see you're job resurrected in the future.

Bard got treated much, much worse.

I realize a lot of people aren't happy with the status quo of SCH, but it's in a much stronger position than BRD has been. SCH's problem is many people don't like how it plays, want DPS complexity back, and so forth. 5.x BRD had some parallels in that people wanted support abilities back, but this was compounded by far, far worse standing.

To be fair SCH literally has abilities that lock off using others. Dissipation stops you from using ANY faerie related abilities and stops gauge building. Seraph blocks off non-seraph faerie abilities. So you can't just be "oh shit! I need a CD!" because you hit dissipation without burning whispering dawn and blessing first then you get to indom and... yep... better hard cast a succor and you may as well have a bunny on your head to let everyone know you f'd up.

SGE looks like someone at least sat down and made a cohesive class and that alone is going to make it feel so much better to play. I don't doubt SCH will still be powerful but the jank is strong.

And it looks like Sage will have a similar design.
We don't know the full extent of it, but people have been translating the tooltips for abilities hovered over in the liveletter and one of them seems to act as a stance that toggles some of your abilities into other abilities (thus you may be locked out of abilities for awhile)

Again, we don't know how this will ultimately all work out, but SCH and Sage are gonna be sharing design elements and it looks like locking you out of some abilities sometimes might be one of those shared elements.

Air Crasher(?): Buffs self and changes certain spells. Duration permanent: [Sage Broil] changes into [Sage Bio]. [Sage Psysick] changes into X (not hovered over/not screenshotted). [Sage Medica] changes into Y (not hovered over/not screenshotted). When you use the changes skill, effect of 15 will be reset. - Instant cast GCD. 1 sec Recast.

We have a thread cooking now for the rest of Sage's "revealed" abilities if you're interested

Seraph doesn't block off Lily's abilities except for Fey Blessing, but she brings two charges of Consolation, which does what blessing does but better.

You do have a point with Dissipation though, and the SCH is forced to either burn up Lily's skills, or sit on them until she returns. This is bad design.

Dissipation has the right idea, but poor execution, and they can really do something with this when SCH inevitably gets reworked at some point during 6.x. Yes, I am calling that this will happen, but only if the feedback after Endwalker launch dictates it. Dissipation should work similar to SMN and Reaper in the sense that the SCH would junction with Lily in order to augment their abilities and/or gain access to new ones. Currently gaining more stacks of Aetherflow just translates to more Lustrates or Energy Drain since all other AF abilities are on long CDs. So Dissipation for lack of a better term, sucks.

SCH is in both a good and bad place at once, being an exceptionally powerful healer with an extensive toolkit and just an insane amount of oGCDs. It is due to their depth that has the dev team saying that they are unsure what to do with the job, and the feedback is only going to increase tenfold now. At the same time, they still carry a ton of ARR concepts that are severely outdated, and the vastness of their toolkit makes it a very convoluted job to play.

I think most of us know that even after the launch of 6.0, SCH is going to need a serious rework. It is not a matter of, "Let's wait and see." We know. We really know. What I said earlier with the SCH junctioning with Lily, that would actually be really awesome if that was the mechanic of that useless Fey Gauge. SCH uses aetherflow to charge it up (filled after x3 AF), and boom! Dissipation. The SCH will remain in this trance like state while the gauge drains.

    There ya go devs.
