I'll put it in a different way, I don't want unlocked job gear for the same reason other players don't want unlocked Hempen sets or unlocked standing/sitting positions.

Selfishness or seriousness, call it whatever but that is my standing position. I wouldn't want other roles robbing me of my exclusiveness in the right of wearing a given role set.

Now, level 1 glamour sets and the crafted ones being mentioned ... well, they mustn't be very role-defining or they have no role at all like most MogStation outfits.

There are a ton of actual gear sets, not just level 1 glams, that are not role defining. What exactly is role defining about say, the Aiming Nyr sets? The shisui sets? The pagl'than sets? And you sometimes get sets where honestly, other sets make sense for a given job. Like for example say the late allagan pvp aiming set only really fits mch, brd and dancer would be better represented by the melee or caster versions of that set. You often have shared models between melee and aiming, or tanking and maiming, casting/healing etc, diluting things further.

Sets don't generally have any real 'role identity' outside of the tanking an sometimes dragoon sets being slightly more armored. And even then the addition of reaper's bloodbornesque asethetic sharing gear with the traditionally much more armored looking dragoon is going to be a bit odd for example.

I really wouldn't call anything role defining besides our arms. We have seen roles share glamours since the beginning of the game, so the lock due to role identity is already a lost point.

Not to mention that it isn't limited to casters, melee, and tanks, either. Samurai shared healer glamour for an Eden tier. It's really silly to not just throw all the appearances on lvl 1 glamour at this point.
