"A unexpected error has occurred. Exiting Final Fantasy XIV.(6d)" Error

I know this has been reported before but that thread is closed an SE never gave any information about what causes it or how to fix it, the player with the error had to resort to running the game through Gforce Experience which is clearly not a sensible long-term solution.

So now this error has hit me!

Last time I logged in was 3 days ago, since then my PC has had no updates of any kind that I can identify yet now I'm getting a 6D, s will someone from SE explain clearly WHAT this error means.

Obviously a programmer in the bowels of SE development wrote a line of code which displayed this error so must know where it comes from and have some idea what caused it. Without knowing this and given previous people's experiencing a total re-install doesn't fix it it's impossible to know what I can do.

BTW, I don't play through Steam so that's not an issue. My Nvidia driver hasn't been updated for many months during which FFXIV has played just fine, so it's nothing to do with my video system.

So I tried a reinstall even though others have reported it doesn't fix it and indeed it doesn't.

I suspect it's video related as the error occurs right after clicking Play and before the screen goes black, and also as the only user-supplied solution in the closed thread was to run the game through an Nvidia tool but I don't have that and don't want it's hidden phone-home snooping.

The game's fine on two other PCs, so still need an SE response.

Just updated the Nvidia drivers to 446.14, released in recent days, FFXIV still broken, looking increasingly to me like it's your end kicking me off because I've now eliminated the game and the graphics drivers .. neither of course had changed in many weeks of normal game playing .. kind of hard to think what's left.

Good afternoon and thank you for posting on the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

As a part of our countermeasures against cheating, we’ve made it so that the error appears and the game will be unable to run when there are applications or processes, etc. that interfere with memory. There are a variety of applications in Windows, and it is difficult to suggest a specific method of solving the issue because everyone’s personal environment differs greatly, so please try running the game in a simple environment that you’ve confirmed has no applications or processes that interfere with memory.

Thank you for visiting the Final Fantasy XIV Technical Support Forums.

So your game is snooping on my system and deciding some other app I have running is a 'cheat' and therefore stopping me play.

    Really?

Well right now the error has 'gone away' so I have no idea what background app. your game objected to. I've rebooted this PC several times since hitting the problem and right now cannot identify any app. that isn't running now that was then.

At least I now know what this error is .. pity you never posted this info in an earlier thread on these forums, https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...XIV.(6d)-Error, which fizzled out leaving the player having the problem none the wiser .. and also meaning others who came after, like me, also weren't able to discover it either.

Thanks for this information, at least I'll know what the problem is if it happens again and hopefully be able to find out which app it is so that SE can fix their broken anti-cheat detector.
