The same is happening to me.
Everything worked fine before I went to Limsa to accept the Moonfire Faire Quest.
Tp'd to Limsa, took the Aetherite to the Aftcastle and since then I can't log in. The game keeps crashing in the loading screen.

So I just did a Windows Recovery for my gaming laptop in hoping it'll help with the DirectX Error 11000002 problem along with some others like the scanning, cleanup, and the C++ Redistributable installing. But I never did bother with underclocking since it's a gaming laptop I use, and I don't want to damage the driver (Nvidia GTX 980M) without knowing what to do.Dx 11 error fixed by: Downloading Visual C++ Redistributable
(Note: AtMy Fix
which is at the bottom of the post, I recommend trying that before reading my rambles.
Who knows, the issue might be as easy as you've thought!)
I'll begin with my incredible journey (A.k.a: Warrior of 1100002). So, I had this error since running Final Fantasy XIV with Windows 10 and had to deal with 1100002 (Savage) IN PF:
1. "Basic" formatting for Windows 10 (Under Settings>Update & Security>Recovery>Reset this PC).
2. Updating Drivers "WITH" (Search Automatically for Drivers). I did that, which most people knows, by: (⊞ +X>Device Manager>Right click all drivers>Update Drivers).
3. I tried MANUALLY update drivers, I followed this guide: https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-update-drivers-in-windows-2619214
4. Typing "cmd" in search bar, run as adminstrator. In the command prompt window, typed: "sfc /scannow" (Note: without quotation marks.)
5. Typing "cmd" in search bar, run as adminstrator. In the command prompt window, typed: "DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth" (Note: without quotation marks.)
6. Typing "dxdiag" in search bar, run as adminstrator. (Note: For searching any corrupted "CORE" .dll files, which I'm sure is NOT the problem for most people.)
7. After resetting, I tried to change the compatibility mode of "ALL" Square Enix Application Folders (ffxiv, ffxiv_dx11, ffxivboot, ffxivconfig, ffxiv launcher, ffxivupdater) to Windows 8.
8. Also, I went to (My Documents>FINAL FANTASY XIV>A Realm Reborn>FFXIV) and changing "Screen Mode" to value of 2. (Note: It changes the startup screen mode as "Borderless Windows". Which I have found that fatal dx errors crash less often in that screen mode.)
9. Tried underclocking with MSI Afterburner, which caused the game to be Microsoft PowerPoint..
And then, guess what? It crashed again! Woohoo!
I finally decided to do a full wipe for my PC. (Note: Please be extremely careful when attempting the steps below as u cannot retrieve any files in any "conventional" way. If done incorrectly, worse case scenario is you can't use your PC and sending to an expert.)
1. I installed a program that wipes ALMOST every piece of software in my PC (DBAN). By following this guide: https://home.bt.com/tech-gadgets/computing/windows-10/how-to-wipe-your-pc-with-windows-10-11364002707321
2. Reinstalled Windows 10 with a OS boot drive. Did the nessesary updates etc. By following this youtube video guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYYoCXh2gtw
My Fix
3. Installed Visual C++ Redistributable. (Note: Yes, I know. This fix has been mentioned for so long. But I was confused about which version to download or its legitimacy.)
Link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2977003/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads
I've been having the same problem ever since I completed the first quest in the moonfire faire event. The DX11 error messages and everything.
Update: I tried installing the C++ runtime as suggested and the game managed to run for all of 5 minutes before crashing again with a bunch of ffxiv_dx11.exe errors.
Update 2: I logged into a different character in another zone and after 40 mins have not had any errors.

Still having it, nothing helps.
Having the same issues, and I'm also playing this game for like more than 300 hours, that's the first time I'm having issues playing ffxiv (exept the famous 90002 error or so).
Weirdly, it comes just after the famous 5.3 update ... Every other game I play works, only having issues playing ffxiv, so it's not due to my graphics or whatever.
Please solve the problem soon enough, I'm enjoying sooo much paying for a game I can't play...![]()
Lmao.
crashed for me at least 20 times today. cant even get to the character selection portion
I tried again after the hotfix that apparently went out and was fine for 20 minutes then I teleported to Lakeland and the crash is back
Good to know i'm not the only one..I've been crashing a lot this day..idk what to do anymore..xD
I just replaced my gpu driver for like 15 times..that's the most gpu driver rollback i did in my entire life and this fatal direct x has been going on for awhile. Please fix this. Game is totally unplayable after 5.3. I had this errors way back and idk what causes it. I was able to play for hours yesterday, but today is just worst..
