    New!

    Hello everyone, I've finally decided to bought FFXIV for the first time, and so far, I really enjoyed the game!

    I always liked a Sword type class, and so I rolled a Gladiator, and it's very fun to play!

    However, again, I am still new to the game, and I do not know what attribute stats do I put into a Gladiator, and why? Any sort of guide would be kindly appreciate it ^^;

    And for the Advanced Class that I heard about, Paladin, does anyone here has any information about that class?

    Also, does anyone know if they'll implement Greatsword in the game? I always wanted a class that's able to wield this type of weapon. I was hoping Warrior would be able to wield it, but I believe they still roll with their ginormous axe.

    hows it going Nanamix, glad u joined, sory you picked a horrible server though <,< (XD just kidding cause its not my server) um for what attributes for a gladiator i would say STR and DEX. And if you are going to be a PLD for your adv. class I would without a doubt put a hefty amount into VIT. I also assume (or hope) there will be a enmity, as that is kind of vital for PLD for tanking. Although me personaly i wouldn't put all my points into just those three. ( I mean if you do you will be one of the best GLA's/PLD's probably.) But if you have never played a Final Fantasy MMO before, the real beauty behind it is you can play as every single class and job in the game. So you would want to even them out all over the place if you want to play every single class. (Thats not saying if you go all out into your GLA and PLD you wont be able to play a mage class, you'll just be a relatively weak mage.) But that is also the beauty in FFXI and FFXIV, its up to the player how you want to play the game. You can go all out in just one class and be just uber epic in that class or divy it out and be semi good in all the classses, which ever you prefer.

    Actually, you can theoretically be the best on your server in every single class. Point allotments are done individually for each class. So you can spend all your points on STR and MND as a Gladiator and then spend them all on INT and PIE as a Thaumaturge. In practice, being the best is a combination of skill, an in-depth knowledge of all skills available to your class and how to use them in a wide range of situations, and gear, the best of which is almost always multiple-materia gear, which requires a significant amount of gil or luck.

    As far as points go, there's a chart in the 1.20 Patch Notes telling the effects of each stat (Link to notes. Search for "Parameters and Their Effects"). To maximize auto-attack and, I believe, weaponskill damage, you want to invest in STR and MND as a Gladiator, but you could also throw some in VIT if you need the extra tankiness. I went all-out into STR and MND, but use accessories and gear to boost my VIT.

    The abilities for Paladin have been posted, and somewhere people say they've mined the names of the abilities out of the game files. I hear that you'll have lower HP, but much higher defense, and the new abilities will definitely adjust the way you play. Here's the preliminary list of new job abilities from before 1.20. Details have probably changed slightly since this was posted, and we'll find out for sure when 1.21 releases in a week or two.

    Good luck to you!

    EDIT: Links to cited pages because they're hard to find in my paragraphs.

    o cool, I was hoping they where done individually cause i was devy'ing them up like i stated, and than started thinking what if when you change jobs you can re distribute all your points for best play? I don't know cause im still relatively new myself and have yet to play a second class, im still trying to lv. my PGL up. But im glad to see that it works that way ^.^

    So I should focus on STR and MND? Why not VIT? Isn't Gladiator suppose to be a tank?

    Also, does anyone knows anything about Greatsword? Or is it coming in the future? xP

    They have said Greatsword will more then likely be added to the game, due to the armory system though it will probably be a different class that will lead up to another job. The future of the Greatsword is still not known but we can hope since CNJ and THM both have 2-h and 1-h weapons they can use same can be done with any class.

    when Great Sword comes into play I would assume it would be for DRK if they make that a adv. job. But thats just me guessing.
