please God just call it port

I think most of us learned a new word in this patch. Now I'm not in the Navy or anything But i did ace my SATs in a million years ago and I have never heard of 'larboard' before.

Just looking at a glance when I see the cast timer for --arboard wave cannon I don't know if I need to zig or zag.

I'm not sure if this was a translation oversight or what but could we please use the modern nomenclature

I wouldn't be surprised if the other languages did not use nautical terms for Omega. Pretty sure The Temple of the Fist boss does not for everyone else. Localization expected everyone having been on or near a boat twice now...

French does. It uses "babord" and "tribord", which are the nautical terms for left and right on a ship.
Since the french version almost always follows the japanese one, there's a fair chance that actually every language uses nautical terms for that attack.

... And I'm pretty sure they did it on purpose in order to make that attack a bit more difficult to do. Tsukuyomi also comes to mind for that, but she doesn't do it twice in a row while doing a 180.

The english translation is known to use very old terms and expressions in its localization. That's one of the many liberties the english team took (alongside getting far from the japanese version sometimes, to the point where the sentences have completly different meanings).

i'm not angry about it - I feel like I've learned something today. But these aren't just 'old-terms' they are literal dead phrases. I have never seen or come across it any literature, let alone spoken word.

The term is still used often in fiction. Robert Jordan's, E. Feist, and Brandon Sanderson, iirc, all use the symmetry of larboard/starboard over starboard and... port.

It still seems the more prevalent choice in most of my world literature anthologies from back in university (I was an English major), even 1800s to modern.

They just used left and right or so I was told in the Japanese version. Though seriously I wish they would stop using nautical terms it screws up anyone who doesn't work or live on boats/ships.

I don't even care about the nautical terms, its that the two words are spelled almost exactly the same and It's confusing in a rush

Although I've never heard the word larboard before. I suspect this was pulled out of a 19th century Japanese to English dictionary because that's that last time the word was still used instead of port

Uh, Larboard was featured in the Ixal Craft quests, though nothing ever told you which is which.

You also construct Starboard components for the Ixali so I always assumed they mean Port for this.

Also they used Port & Star in the 2nd boss of Temple of the Fist, so no reason choosing such an uncommon name.

A quote during a certain auction scene from the Disneyland/World attraction Pirates of the Caribbean comes to mind, "Shift yer cargo, dearie, show 'em your larboard side!"
