Thanks a lot guys. Besides one everyone really added to the question, something i didnt really expect.

Sounds like the game is still running, so ill just see how the situation on Ragnarok is. maybe change servers if nothing helps. I live in Thailand most of the time, otherwise Germany, so its not easy to choose if i go JP, or EU or what. Lets see.

Again, thanks a lot for your input guys. :-)

Sure, a LS still going isnt a sign for the whole sever. Now this LS was around since many years, starting FF11, always mostly the same ppl, from all over the world, so yes, usually one could find one of them at any hour on a day. But seems they are all gone. I guess after such a long time most have other lives now. And that the markets are empty could be of course really time problem. Lets see.

I read posts like this before too and they made me a bit worried tbh. But i just give it another chance and see myself.

Let's get some things straightened up right here. The answer you are looking is threefold, the game isn't dead but there are 3 aspects that heavily affect on how you perceive this.
    1. Old low level zones tend to get emptier of players, no one runs fates or anything like that on old zones cause there is really no reason to do so. As time goes on, and expansions roll over, people congregate on the new zones, which you can't even see until you are 60+, and this just keeps on happening in pretty much any mmo.
    2. The game isn't dead, but has some population decline, because the amount of stuff to do isn't as great as it could be. The impact of this is probably not that big impact, but it is still noticeable.
    3. This is probably the biggest one, it is highly unlikely that you missed it, but this small game called World of Warcraft just had an expansion pack released less than 2 weeks ago and that will most certainly have effects on other games that compete with it.
