Remove role action Rescue : only a tool for trolling and poor gameplay

Rescue has always been a Wild Card.

I've had my life saved many times with it, but almost as many times as a Tank have been Rescue'd into an extra pack of adds because the Healer felt I was going too slow.

But overall, I think Rescue has been more of a Pro than a Con.

Well, yes. Also the one that went on for waaaaaay too many pages about making an 'opt-out-of-Rescue' toggle, which I feel zero desire to go hunt up right now, but which I recall making some (rather impassioned) posts in along the lines of "if you're going to do that, just get rid of the ability entirely, because the idea of an opt-in toggle is far worse than just removing it".

I mean, I was half-joking about "why revive an ancient thread", but also half-serious about it; I've seen folks revive really old threads complaining about a thing, and folks will thus read many pages of multi-year-old posts, and then reply to them going "What are you talking about, <X> doesn't work that way!" without realizing the post they're replying to dates back to, say, Heavensward.

That said, I admit I'm genuinely mystified. Sometimes I write it off as being cultural differences between datacenters when folks say they only ever see it used for trolling, but you're on Primal with me -- heck, I know we've ended up in the same alliance raids before -- so I'm genuinely puzzled.

Sometimes I wonder if it's not just that people remember those instances more so it feels like the trolling happens more than anything else...

I’m leveling my healers now and at least one time per dungeon I would use to save a person from a AOE because they would run the wrong direction (usually a sprout). Personally I’ve never seen it being used to troll. In Extreme fights I’ve seen it be used to save a team member who stacked at the wrong location.

I don't necessarily agree with a toggle or whatever, and haven't suggested that. I have merely vented about rescue recently. As you can see, I wasn't previously aware of these other threads.

I haven't even been complaining about it being used for trolling recently, as my posts outline. I have been saying people aren't using it well. I'm sure they have good intentions, but pulling me out of nothing, or pulling me into mechanics is the side effect. It's incredibly annoying. I vented about it in the "what things annoy you?" thread, and after I have had it happen to me more times. I decided to search for a prior thread on the subject and found this one. I don't see why this is such an issue. It's not my fault if people can't check the date of a post, and decide to reply to something old. For that matter, the subject of rescue being improperly used is still going on to this day!

I hardly have seen rescue used in the first place. Simply put, it has been happening often recently to me, and I was annoyed. It's ridiculous that I even have to explain myself.

Many friends in this game, that going to play in group of 3, have come out of some madhouse, try to make videos in the future, report them, block them.

I should clarify I don't think anyone's making anything up, but I sometimes wonder whether the perceived prevalence of Rescue-trolling is indeed just perception, since people tend to remember annoyances far more than they do the average run. It sticks in the mind more and stands out more. I would be curious if people kept like a tally-sheet of each duty they ran and whether or not someone trolled with Rescue in it, whether in tallying the numbers up after a month the trolling/misuse of Rescue would truly be so endemic a problem as many of these threads make it out to be.

Also note that I'm not saying that you specifically are claiming it's endemic, Sturm, just that the bulk of these threads do make it out to be a veritable wave of constant misuse. That said, if it's enough of an annoyance that people perceive it as constant misuse, it's arguable how much that differs from if it were actually being misused that much; either way, people are unhappy with it.

Still, most of these threads are just complaining about it; what I'd be curious to see is whether folks have a good recommendation on what could replace it, to give me as a healer an option to keep folks from dying in those scenarios like the Crystal Tower raids -- or to grab a DPS who insists continually on greeding a mechanic and constantly eats floor. I don't care if that method is Rescue or something else, but I care that I have a method of some form to react to those scenarios.

(Ideally, a way which wouldn't be cheesed to the moon and back in savage content.)

I would say about 95% of the time I use Rescue, all it does is move the corpse closer to me. Out of the 5% that survive, 4% imideatly run back into the bad and die with only 1% going "woah, thanks!".

In order for Rescue to be useful, it needs to apply an instant invuln buff on the target and then remove the buff after the animation lock is completed. Otherwise, I am ok with it being removed from the game because as it is now, a better use of my GCD is to precast my rez for the person who is about to die to the bad.
