Gear Dyeing Recipes - please say this is a LOC issue

So - kudos on the dyeing change. In 99+% of the new recipes, Yoshida's "Finished product + Dye" vision will be put into place in 1.20.

What's the 1% you ask? Goldsmithing. Actually - Steel Goggles/Cobalt Preserves only. While all other (color) items are "Finished product + Dye", this item gets special treatment.

Steel Goggles (Yellow) = Steel Goggles + All-purpose Yellow Dye + Clear Glass Lens
Steel Goggles (Black) = Steel Goggles + All-purpose Black Dye + Clear Glass Lens

The recipes should not include the Clear Glass Lens.

Also (related) - why are Cobalt Preserves different than the normal pattern as well?

With 1.20 SE has (properly) gotten rid of (all?) instances of there being (colored) variants without an existing uncolored base. Cobalt Preserves appears to get special treatment, as there does not appear to be an uncolored version of the Cobalt Preserves. Instead we are given the following recipes:

Cobalt Preserves (Red) = Steel Goggles + All-purpose Red Dye + Clear Glass Lens + Cobalt Ingot
Cobalt Preserves (Green) = Steel Goggles + All-purpose Green Dye + Clear Glass Lens + Cobalt Ingot

There should be an uncolored Cobalt Preserves item (Cobalt Preserves = Steel Goggles+Cobalt Ingot(+Clear Glass Lens?)

and two "Finished product + Dye" recipes (i.e. Cobalt Preserves (Green) = Cobalt Preserves + All-purpose Green Dye)

So let's just all cross our fingers and hope this is a website/LOC issue, and SE didn't really mean to make Steel Goggles different from all other items.

    Thanks for the report, gahoo.

Since the LOC team doesn't handle recipes (they are all generated automatically from data sheets made by the Item team) I'm going to translate your message and pass it on to the people in charge. I'll be back with an update as soon as I have one.

    OK.

The recipe man was here early (and by early, I mean on time) today, so I was able to get an answer to both of your queries. Regarding the first issue, the colored steel goggle recipes have been fixed. You will only need a pair of steel goggles and either the black or yellow all-purpose dye to create the colored variants.

Regarding the second issue, this, unfortunately, turns out to be that 0.01% exception to the rule (i before e, except after c, yadda yadda yadda). Because cobalt preserves with clear lenses do not exist, currently the only way to craft the colored variants is by fusing a cobalt ingot with a regular pair of steel goggles, some clear lenses and some all-purpose dye, and then fitting those two items together. Instead of making this a three step process, the Item team has elected to consolidate those steps into one, hence the hefty recipe.

I hope that clears things up!

Alright. Can't say I agree with the exception (strikes me might as well make the uncolored item), but que sera sera. I can certainly work with it. Thanks for the quick response Fernehalwes (and unnamed recipe man).

EDIT: unless stats are changing, maybe consider renaming Cobalt Preserves (Red) and Cobalt Preserves (Green), since they are not statistically identical?

Cobalt Preserves (Red) = Cobalt Preserves of Ignorance (wearer/crafter is ignorant if they don't make it green, since green are in all ways statistically better)
Cobalt Preserves (Green) = Cobalt Preserves of Perception

Renaming would actually make it less of an exception too IMO.
