SMN FFX (^.^)b FFXI (^.^)b and FFXIV (-.-)p

I'm not sure if this has been up for discussion before but I'm still very dissapointed on the SMN class. What kind of SMN can't smn and no Egi don't count since as they say on the Lore they are just a manifestation of the SMN taping into the primal power. Back in FFXI and even FF10 a smn would be able to really smn a real avatar, aeon, or what you wanna call them. I been playing pre release, from the beta and i remember back then people were in a uproar about this. Some ask that they should scale the Egi a bit more bigger, and a lot of people had even come up with great arts pictures of what they should look like. That why I'm begging Yoshi to please do something about this! I want to feel like a real smn and not some half ass caster with no ability to truly show what real power is!

I really don't see them fundamentally changing a job, but you never know. The problem is really with the base class, imo. In fact, that seems to be the problem with most of the jobs in general. The classes are clumsy. The names are confusing. They suck in dungeons. And the devs continue to admit the class > job system was a mistake; especially by making expansion jobs... jobs. Plus class > job kind of forced some weird branching jobs. Archer > Bard was... something.

It should have been one job to start the game; Freelancer. Pick your weapon, and start adventuring. They could've given Freelancer a little bit of healing, a little bit of damage magic, and a few skills to start learning rotations. Then when it mattered (before level 15 dungeon) have Freelancer branch out into Tank, Healer, Melee, Caster; and make the player choose one. Play one (or all) of those until 30 where you unlock jobs. By then, you would've found what you liked to play. Except now, nobody really cares about this, because they're past it all.

I will say that I like aspects of summoner in FFXI. To be honest, I didn't like the constant avatar swapping on XI. It felt clumsy with all the pacts (most of them worthless). I wish it would have been like older FF games. Where you call the avatar, he/she does a specific move, and then goes away. Kind of like they eventually did with Odin/Alexander, but to a smaller scale. So it wasn't a two hour move.

That being said, I wish this was how FFXIV SMN functioned: I find the DoT spam boring. I don't like the Egi. Three versions of Carbuncle would've been fine. I would've liked to see more interaction with Carbuncle though. For example, he auto-attacks and does his own thing for the most part. But then you can start a skill rotation by using an ability that makes him do something. Then you in turn do your own ability, and have him close the rotation with a third. Sure, you can micromanage him as it is now, but you're really not working in tangent with him. I'd like to work off of what my pet is doing, and build on it. I'm still holding out hope this is how BST will function, but I digress.

Meanwhile, between your rotations, you can summon the other primals. Or at least whatever crumb of power they wish to bestow upon you. For instance, you summon Ramuh. He does a lightning strike move. Then he goes away. I'm not sure you would want the summons to do anything other than damage, because you might end up with XI's problem. That is, running into crowd favorites. But I guess they could do buffs/debuffs as well. I fear a group always wanting, say Ifrit, because he gives attack bonus.

I really don't see a FFX summoner on an mmo though. It's too grand of scale. Which also makes me think the avatars shouldn't be too big. It's hard enough now to see which direction a mob is facing with 10 melee crowded around it. Think about having 5 avatars packed in there too. With all of the flashy job abilities going off. Anyway, that's just my opinion on summoner. It could use some work, but I doubt it'll get a reboot.
