It is quite different - for one, you have access to a lot more content, as you can not only do the current one, but also all past content. Your progression is now going over gear, rather than levels. You also simply have more people to play with - Alexander synced is far more lively than the coils synced, same for PvP and everything else. CT is kept on life support via WT and the Aether Oils - Both endgame incentives.

Personally, I'm probably not going to benefit from those potions either way, since I have 6 characters in Ishgard by now, but I'd have gladly shelled out five bucks just to skip the 2.1-2.55 quest series on my alts. Once was far more than enough.
